The V Wins because of repair cost and maintenance. The jury is still out on the new 2011 diesel. This is for load 12k and under. Over that you need to do a diesel.
The V10 F750 has no problem with weights over 12K...
I have had my old NPI 2V at 27,000 gross and it did pretty well still.
Here in Utah, next to 6 refineries, diesel is around .75 cents higher than regular gas. The higher gasoline goes, the larger the difference between gas and diesel. With all of the Gov't shut down of the Gulf, no drilling in ANWAR, no new drilling on BLM, no new refineries, and no nuke plants to relieve some of the demand on oil, better get ready for some outrageous prices in the next few years.
My question is: Why is crude oil so much cheaper (compared to the price of gas at the pump) than it was a few years ago when gas was $4.00 a gallon?
Snowseeker: There is some truth to your comment, We can run on a lot of different "fuels" if we have to, but if we need to run that "fuel" consistantly, a 12v Cummins would be best

I agree, the guy on the show found some 80's suburban with a 6.2 diesel. But he also had a good point, run the diesel until it gums up and craps out then just find another diesel truck.

I am not trying to get into the politics of this, but the above is not correct. Right now oil/gas prices are not going up because of the laws of supply and demand. The government filled its oil reserve in 2008, the highest it has even possessed. Do your research on the supply held by companies as well, it is at historic high levels. You see, that is what happens when there is a ramp up in supply through 2007 then demand fell through the floor in 2008 due to the economy and high prices. So companies ramped up and still have that excess supply.
Also, do some research on oil refineries capacity. While technically true there hasn't been any NEW refineries, there has been tons of capacity added. You really think we could run on the same capacity as 30 years ago? Think of airports, there has only been one new commercial airport opened in 40 years or whatever, does that mean air travel has only increased a few percent? Nope.
So please do some research rather than pass off repeated false taking points as fact.
Either way, they just found a way to produce diesel from water with only water as a byproduct. Diesel wins again!!!!!
All of this "no drilling" will catch up with us, mark it down. Everything I said is true; I work in the oil & gas industry. New pipelines take an average of 5 years just to get permitted, by then no telling what the producers and end-users are looking at spot market wise. How would you like to speculate as to the prices 5 years from now with your business? It's like Yogi Berra once said, "You can't predict the future cause it ain't happened yet".
