I posted it in other thread, but so far looks that my low boy trailer with dove tail is improving aerodynamics of my flatbed to the degree to compensate for 5000 lb trailer weight.
Meaning my mileage empty, or towing the flatbed trailer alone is the same.
This winter I averaged 8.6 mpg. Keep in mind I live in the mountains and had the hubs locked the entire winter. Right now I'm at 11.8. My friend with a 6.4 is getting 15.4, he is pretty consistent at getting about 4 mpg better than me across the board.
Then when I travel highway to go back home I can easily get above 14 mpg once I'm out of the mountains.
I've never seen a car/truck with such a huge range of mpg.
But I could easily see how some with 2wd, 6 speed manual, and different gears could get 15 mpg average with the V10.
But as I've said before, all you PSD still spend more on fuel, because I live less than 4 miles from work. So even getting 8mpg, I still use less than 1 gallon a day. I know people with Hybrids that use more gas than I do on a daily basis
On the PSD note, I had a 7.3, never saw 20 mpg. Being that the newer PSD's have exhaust systems, I can see them getting that much better.
Anyway, PSD's get better mpg , who buys a 7,000 lb truck for mpg anyway? It's not like I went to the dealer saying I wanted to stop global warming, so give me the V10.

I remember a mythbusters where they added 1000lbs of clay to car and it got the same mpg. Then they carved little holes into it to make it more aerodynamic and improved the mpg. The car with 1000 lbs of clay was actually better on mpg than the lighter one.
They did say it used FAR more fuel to accelerate it though. So if you are just towing it on flat land without stopping, it is possible it may not affect your mileage toooo badly.

Well I know they will, since I had a 2000 GT with nitrous on it and I left the kit on the stang and they replace two engines and 3 tranny's under warranty. Oh and they pass my car for inspection with a off road h-pipe. But it's ok I know you're jealous because I have the hook up and that I drive a diesel.
Yes, be smug about that. I'm waiting for someone in Ford legal to contact FTE to request information about you. Not that I would ever hear about it, but it sure would make a DAMN FUNNY story.
If that dealer really is doing that, they should be shut down. That's FRAUD with a capital "F".

Yes, and people with diesels that say they get 19 or even 20+ are quoting their average, including stop-and-go right?

It absolutely does. So do most engines. If you read between the lines.
My V10 gets around 5-5.5 stop-and-go. I'm not babying it in any way. The 93 octane 5-star tune gives me 6.5 in the same conditions, which is an 18% improvement, while the gas itself is only 10% more. Win-win
On the HIGHWAY with no towing - I regularly have gotten 16+ over the past 8 years. And that's doing 70-75 MPH.
But hey, I didn't buy this thing for the gas mileage. I bought it because I was completely and hopelessly tired of smelling diesel after driving a truck for a living in my late 20's. And maintaining it - changing fuel filters was the worst thing about it. Never again. I don't care if I can chip it (and all the other required WARRANTY-VOIDING modifications) and get 800HP.
For all the work, I'd rather install turbos or a blower, and nitrous on a gas motor.

My previous 5.4L F150's with 4.10 rear ends got like 13 mpg in the city and 16 hwy, that was back in Ohio, not here in the mountains though. My old Chevy with a 454 was pretty consistent at 8-10.
that is interesting about the premium fuel, I have not even tried it, perhaps the next tank I will. To bad it will put me close to paying what those diesel people pay though lol.
16+ on the hwy is pretty good, I probably can't get that because of my gears, although I'm think of install an intake system, which Pappy says will give me 1 mpg. seems like a good deal for $200.
You need the proper tuning to go with the premium fuel, otherwise your flushing your money down the crapper. Bone stock your better off running 87 or 89 if you have spark knock issues you can't resolve.

What I find funny is jac08f250 was giving JL a hard time about his mpg but had this to post in the last gasser vs diesel thread that Krewat closed.
"I understand that I just don't understand why people don't blieve when people post mpg numbers. I mean damn I'm not saying I'm getting 20 plus mpg out of the 6.4 bone stock cause it can't be done. But it is the internet and there are alot of people out there thinks they know everything."
He seemed to have no problem with the 21mpg one of the 7.3 guys said he was getting. Even though that 21mpg figure is distorted because it was calculated after driving only 22miles.
I usually set the cruise at 64mph and get 14 to 16 on the 22mi drive to and from work. This morning (no wind and 49 degrees and clear) I decided to see what I can get out of it. I'm on rural county roads, through two small towns and a couple of rural stop signs. I reset it before I left the parking lot at work and got 21.1mpg, with the cruise set at 59. I'm driving a '00 PSD, CC, LB, SRW, F350, with a damned automatic besides.

Oh yeah if they did something under warranty that they shouldn't you wouldn't take it.
