not sure this is true. i worked in a lumbar yard when i was back in high school and we sold rock, dirt, fill dirt, and sand. fill dirt is different from top soil by a lot. usually fill dirt is filled with crap, wood chips, rock, drywall chips, and all kinds of other stuff. we sold it by the ton. 1 bucket from the front end loader was a ton for top soil. two buckets was a ton for fill dirt. i havent seen a pickup bed that could take two loads of fill dirt. not weight, but room in the bed. so his weights still seem to be off a little bit but fill dirt doesnt way that much.
It takes it, but it puts it on the bump stops. I won't be getting 3yds again. I honestly didn't think it was going to be that much, and might not have been the full 3yds. I told the guy "enough" when it reached the top of the roof. 2yds is usually just above the top of the bed when leveled out. I'm sure someone will do the math on the bed of the truck now and say it's only xxx cu/ft, but, whatever. I'll take the trailer next time I need some dirt and use the bed for logs and tools.
Which is perfectly reasonable. HOWEVER - having never owned a V10, don't bash those who do without any basis.
This thread is about the V10 versus the PSD. Not about your 2008 6.4L versus a 1/2-ton V8 with what seems like questionable gearing.
Ok, all is good. Please tell the V10 owners who haven't owned a 6.4l to quit bashing mine, too. I'm told I'm too serious, but look at the post they're nitpicking to death now.
BTW, while I've never OWNED a V10, Before I retired from the Army we had SEVERAL GSA vehicles that had the V10's in them. I haven't owned one, no; but I've driven plenty of them. There's no comparison between the ride of my 09 PSD and the 04 F250 V10 I drove last. The V10 F250's are all over Iraq. Same with some Chebby's with an Isuzu diesel in them.

ive already used the iraq v10's in a different "vs." forum. youll lose, just letting yo know. been there done that.
ive never delt with yards when it comes to it. just tons. but i understand
I don't get out there and measure it; that's for sure. I pay for a yard, and the scoop it and drop it...I pay for 2, etc... Maybe I'm getting ripped off, but I doubt it. I see all the contractors getting the same size scoops. The point I was making is that my ENGINE didn't know all that dirt was back there. Suspension damn sure did though.
That "ride" has nothing to do with the engine. Your '09 has coil springs, the '04 does not.
Power either. That V10 felt as fast as my old 2002 F150. To me, the ride is all-encompassing. It includes the power, comfort, handling, etc. IOW, the V10 seemed rather tame compared to my 6.4.

Maybe so. My '05 F150 was about 1500 lbs lighter than my current F250, although my '09 F250 V10 would demolish and of the F150's I've owned, and 2 of them had the 5.4 with 4.10 rear ends in them.
It sounds to me your F150 had some small gears in it, some of the 5.4's came with really bad gears for better mpg (although the mpg was questionable) which made them slow as poo. Those gears were also GENERALLY associated with lower payloads for the truck too.
In any case, all the truck I've had are plenty fast for what I did with them, so it is a moot point really. I mean if you want a fast truck, by a F150 regular cab, short bed, 4x2, with a 5.4 and supercharge it, you'll beat everything except the all out drag trucks. But such a truck would be relatively useless to me and money would be better spent buying a proper sports car, for me anyway.
00-04 only had 310 HP and a 4 speed auto. The 05-10 V10s have the same 5 speed auto you have and 362hp... 12 more than your truck.
That 4 speed auto was a killer, I hated that tranny. But I haven't been a big fan of any of Ford's trannies to be honest. It'll be a while till I get the new 6 speed though.
I know my buddy who has a 6 speed F150 with a 4.6L 2V V8 and 3.73 gears and it has some power. Probably faster than my old 5.4 with the 4.10 and 4-speed.

My 2002 F150 was slow as hell...That was my point. The V10's are slow, too.
The V10's are slow compared to the Powerstroke. Period. (At least the 6.4) I mauled one about an hour ago. That ends any debate on my end.
Have a wonderful day.
So you know for a fact the other guy was really wide open, his truck was configured exactly the same as yours with the exact same weight, and optimal gearing for the V10?
