Tell me Bill, how 13% worse fuel economy is coming ahead?
I won't even mention that historically gas was always more expensive than diesel.

price for fuel according to the eia in march was :

$2.77 per gal. -gas
$2.92 per gal. - diesel

so if we went on a 100 mile trip in both trucks:

GAS
100/16mpg= 6.25 gal of gas at those prices = $17.32

DIESEL
100/21mpg= 4.76 gal of diesel at those prices = $13.91

so even though diesel is more expensive now it is still cheeper. if that makes sense

The V10 comes out ahead too.
Wow, when this thread first started the v10 guys conceded that diesels would tow the weight easier and get better mpg's while towing because it had a lower power band and didn't have to downshift as much, but that the v10 could accelerate faster due to having more hp. Now you're telling me the v10 is more durable, faster AND it can tow the load easier and get better mpg's in the process. Towing the same trailer Johnny's v10 lost 5 mpg's and the 7.3 lost 7 mpg's. In every other vehicle I have ever driven, downshifting and turning more rpms used MORE gas. The v10 is the only engine I know of that GAINS mpg's the harder you run it

History is in the past-and this is the present and the future-Diesel is now, and will be more expensive than gasoline due to the EPA's new regs, and the ever-changing formulas that they're imposing on diesel fuel.

Bill means the v10 came out ahead because in Johnny's example the v10 lost less mpg's towing than the diesel. I see the exact opposite when towing with a gasser because every hill requires a downshift and more go pedal. He also means that since they got the same mpg's towing, the v10 comes out ahead there too because gas is cheaper than diesel. So same mpg's but cheaper fuel means less fuel costs for the v10.

It is 2.80 and 2.99 here. Usually diesel is about 10-15 cents higher than regular gas around here. At best, it is the same price as regular gas.

Looks to me like the V10 engine is down for the count.

Look at it this way - the V10 that I own outpulls, out drives, out MPGs, out every thing the diesel I don't own. There, the V10 wins.

Bill is ahead in his count, because when I admit that V10 is better as a boat anchor -he added it as a winning point

The PSD is a better boat anchor. It weighs more and is not worth anything else.
