Belligerent? Wasn't trying to be.

I simply love to argue and sometimes get a bit too involved. Sorry if I came across a bit strongly!

No prob. You know how words can appear typed vs. being spoken. Now that i look at it again, it probably just rubbed me the wrong way.

I'm a tad bit argumentative myself, but also know when to admit i'm wrong. Keep the replies comin boys. I'm still learning, that's for sure.

In my opinion, diesels will outlast gas trucks when put in conditions where the owners beat the @$#% out of the trucks and pull more than the max on a fairly regular basis.

And that's why I'm still addicted to FTE after 7 years! Krewat has a good sig line that I've been tempted to steal for awhile:

I beat the **** out of my V10, and I pull more than its rated for fairly often. Give me time to put more miles on it, I'll prove you wrong.
Of course, the only way to really know is use a 7.3 for the same thing until it blows too.

I have been wanting to take that sig since joining FTE!
The other one I like is from a guy in the IDI forum " If you take my advice and it breaks, you can keep both halves!"

That's only true if the diesel owner takes really good care of his engine including really good maintenence, not to mention extra careful on the fuel contamination issues. With a gasser, just gas and go with an oil change every 3-5k and a $15 fuel filter every 15k. Not alot of worries with a gasser, but alot to be concerned with on a diesel rig. Been there.

I have never changed my fuel filter on my V10. Is it on the rail or in the tank?

Changing that fuel filter is very important with the fuel injection system we have now. Cheap and easy. I actually used the same filter on my 7.3 as an extra insurance policy for my diesel fuel.

The last one I had installed was a Fram and I was at a "quick lube", but don't remember the number. It's about a 2-3" inline filter that has clamps on each end. Takes about 2 minutes to change; it's on the rail.

Hey, that's trademarked

Just added the "®" to the end to make sure you don't steal it! (just kidding, be my guest)

Gaser owners will always downplay the cost of fuel.
Even I don't drive a lot -we do own diesel sedan as well.
I paid a premium to buy it, but now when I need to go 550 miles to Vegas -it is only 50 bucks for fuel and I don't have to worry that I gain another 200,000 miles on the car fast.
With gas engine, the Premium would be about $80 and car with over 100k miles would be unsellable. In Mercedes you don't have the issue with noise the PS makes. Both models with gas or diesel engine perform very similar and give the same comfort.
Fact that with diesel I can make the trip without refueling at desert gas station (with high prices) helps not only with the money, but with time as well.

Diesel owners will always make unproven claims of superior longevity, act as if there's a HUGE fuel savings, and that the increased costs of diesel vehicle maintenance is non-existent.
