This is all on topic. The v10 crowd kept saying they need to run at 4,500 or 5,000 rpms and their HP advantage their would have them outpull the psd. So after a year of hearing the engine will hold that rpm for days, I challenged them to prove it. Though I want to see it fully loaded on a mountain pass, I accepted flat ground.

Here's the funny thing, in my Chevy 6.0 gas engine, I had one trip into a headwind I was in a hurry, so to keep it at 70 mph, I had to have it over 4k rpms, and I did that for an hour. I almost ran out of gas though, I got 5mpg hand calc on the tank and a few miles were unloaded. Shortly thereafter I bought a diesel.

And my 6.0 had a CAI and programmer so I was probably at 330/400 or more depending on what you believe for manufacturer claims.

Yep, I figured Bill would run out of gas 15 minutes into his 20 minute test...Instead, he blew the engine.

I stand corrected. My 2010 will rev higher than 5k. I even put it in the red alittle. I couldn't check the 04 f150 and it will hit 5k for a split second but rev limiter will knock it back down. I couldn't check the 07 mustang my wife is a walmart. I couldn't record thef150 my phone died.
Please excuse the poor quilty I had my Tourch on close up setting. My gear changing sucks cause I was trying to video and shift at same time. How the heck does anybody drive and txt? Anyway check it out. http://youtu.be/wHh13qc_ibw

Nice ride! One day when I become rich and famous I will buy my sports car, just can't justify a third vehicle yet. I am debating on an old school 90s Supra, a new Camaro SS, a Mustang Cobra/Shelby, or a few year old Vette. I am a bigger dude, so probably going the Camaro/Mustang route.

Thanks. Its the first I've seen with a glass roof. Are you trying to justify 3 vehicles with your self or you and your spouse? My wife and I have a truck a piece and mustang each. I bought her the 07 when she graduated from vet. School. She really wanted a red 1. Then last Dec. She saw this black one and fell in love. She gave me the 07. I have plans for it but it'll be a few yrs.
Speaking of which I've tested the 07 and it too will rev past 5k. No I didn't video it. I didn't see the need. So I called a friend. He told me the manual mustangs will rev beyound redline. The auto tranny vehicles have the rev limiter. Again this is hear say. Better believe I will be researching it.
I gladly admit I was wrong.

I have my diesel and I bought my wife an Impala SS new in 2006, so that satisfies the urge every now and then. Not quite what I want, but you have to take what you get.

Man ya'll are alot nicer to your wives than I am. I bought my wife a 2002 jeep grand cherokee the beginning of 2007 with 89000 miles on it. A month later I bought myself the 2006 in my sig from left over dealer stock. My brothers both drive 2009 gmcs, one 1500 cc 4x4 5.3, the other. 2500 cc 4x4 6.6. The one in the half ton lives at home while my mother drives the 97 ex in my sig. The other brothers wife drives a 1998 dodge caravan. I guess we are cheap skates when it comes down to the other sex in our family

My wife just wanted the V6. I said BS, if I am buying a nice new car, might as well spend the extra couple $$$ on the SS. I drive it often enough that it is worth it.

Josh, I am still waiting for that 8% 10 mile mountain pass you can pull a trailer at 60 mph the entire way.

They might go over redline on the tach, but not the true redline of the engine. PCM will kick in before that.

I don't know about the auto trans stangs, but I know for a fact the CVPIs will rev to 5500 before upshifting at WOT. If anything the mustang will rev higher.

Maybe so. I buy my wife new vehicles and myself used. I've only bought myself 1 new vehicle and that was my 05 f150 which I traded for my 04 f250. That's how much my psd inpressed me. I went down in model year. I first looked at SD w/ 5.4 and 6.8l. Once I drove a psd I knew which way I was going. It was just a matter of finding the truck.

Come on dude give me a break. I've done admitted I was wrong. I have no way of knowing the rev limit of the engine. All I know is what's on the tac.
What is a CVPI? I tell ya what go get in an 04 or 05 f150 and you'll find out what a rev limiter is.

Even in the 460, Its always out of 1st and second at 4500 or less. These big engines need their fuel and oil, at at high RPM, they will starve for both.
Oddly enough, my wife says I drive my F250 like an old man, and I suppose that's true. I know full well it's not a race car, it doesn't like the twisties AT ALL and it's also gotta last me a long time since I can't afford to break it. Having said that, there's a hill near my house that starts with a 30 mph corner and goes up at about a 9% grade for maybe 1/3 of a mile, give or take. For whatever reason I sometimes get all giggly crawling around the bottom turn at the legal limit, then getting after it up the hill. My '88 GT 5.0 Mustang will crest the top at about 75 mph if I hit the bottom at 50 mph, and the F250 will crest it at 70 even going slow at the bottom. Think about that, here's a big, heavy truck nearly matching a hot rodding icon. Now I'll be the first to admit a good diesel would likely top that speed, and if even a mild corner were in that hill ANY car would probably eat it alive. Childish and immature? Yep. But it's still fun!

He's not criticizing you, just stating facts. The rev limiter will be set at or below the maximum rpm the engine can safely turn. The red line indicated on the tach is often lower than the true limit of the engine. Unless you hit the rev limiter during your drive (which you didn't), you were not at the engine's true "red line." Even automatics will turn the engine higher than the indicated red line on some vehicles.
