Did crew cabs come with the passenger side tool box as an option? Logic tells me that this would have been an option but I can't recall ever seeing any stock CC's with them.
Sure. As long as it was a long bed. 67-79. Could not tell you about the 65-66 trucks. I think you could get it on a short bed in 65-66 trucks.
Thanks! I found a bit more documentation that I'll share in case others are interested:

Tool Storage Compartment -

Handy for stowing hoses, power cords, tools and other gear.
Available for 8-foot Styleside pickup box w/133" & 155" wheelbases

Tool Storage Box, RH - 8ft Styleside pickups only w/133" and 155" wb [N.A. in California w/F-250 Reg. Cab w/ 7.5L(460) v8] Applications R-S which stands for Regular Cab & Super Cab.
It appears that the Tool Storage Compartment was NOT an option in 1978 (and I suspect 1979) since the Chassis Cab/ Crew Cab wheelbase was either 150" or 167"

i just got a crew cab vin says f350 2wheel drive 77 but it has been converted to 4x4 .
It has a decal on the cab from a company its missing the first letter but is j. watson of denver says built and completed in 1-77.
The owner told me it was a company that converted them for ford for union pacific railroad it is the yellow they used. It has some weld marks on the frame like it has had a diff frame welded on right in the middle of the cab. The rest looks factory but it has the 78 79 front leafs and small hub dana 44.
Can anybody help me with this or heard of this company? thanks and now i can finally join the crew cab posts!!!
I show it thur 1979, but, back then, even if it was not availble, it usually could be added special order. Not like today,we are just the same coggs in the wheel!

thanks fordtrucknut! That is it i guess that explains the door sticker and such but not 100% it is all built by them. I guess they could have cut the frame and and added a front frame from a 4x4? Doesn 't seem to be the best or easiest thing!
I guess they took a 2wheel drive and made it 4x4 .
