So does this count for a crew cab? this is what I want to do to mine. Land yacht I know but where those small windows are is the perfect place for a rifle cabinet on each side and I can still fit a bed in the back for camping, hunting and fishing trips [IMG][/IMG]
Well, another pulling season is here so we are trying to break stuff like normal I switched out the old wore out rear springs for some heavy duty newer ones, and it seems to have made a big difference as far as the rear drivetrain holding up. Here are a few videos from the pulls that I have been to. The black 77 Ford is my Dad. The Wood is also our main pulling truck.
Pulled against some diesels at this pull. The 62 Dodge that goes after me used to be the tough 'stock' truck around. Now he's trying to figure out how to get some more power out of it!!

LMC & others also have tanks, but as scarey1 said - other tanks out of a 2wd will bolt in. Heck, tanks up to the 96 trucks will pretty much bolt it. Differences in those ones come with the fuel level sending unit & in tank pump setup though as it changed when EFI became offered on the trucks.
Well if any old tank would fit, I sure wouldn't be on here looking for one.. You see I have about 6 78 79 f250s and even a few 78 79 broncos and even i thought it would be the same. And none of them would fit in this hole. The 6ft bed has a cross member right by the axle and your regular old 2wd rear tanks won't fit because on your 8ft beds the crossmember is at the very rear of the truck were the bumber bolts on. On a 6ft bed they chop of 2 feet on move the crossmember forward a foot after that. So just an f.y.i. they are different unless this truck has been modified in some way. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.
Bronco tanks are for sure different. Pretty sure they are 33 gal.
"Highboy" (73-early 77 4wds) had the tank in the cab.
78/79 2wd trucks (and 4wd I'm pretty sure) had frames just like the 2wd trucks on 73 & on.
These 2wd trucks with the rear tanks had 2 cross members in the back. One at the front of the tank, and one at the rear (rear of frame). If you have a crossmember that doesn't work like that it seems maybe the cab has been swapped on a different frame. You SURE the frame that thing is on is a '79?
Would'nt also make a difference since the 73 - 77 1/2 trucks had a 34" rail to rail and the 77 1/2 to 79 had a 37" rail to rail? Not sure it would but just throwing that out there.
yes but the 34" rear frames were the 4wd - highboy trucks I mentioned. The 73-79 2wd trucks had the 37" frames as did the 78/79 4wd.
But since his truck is a 79 2wd then it SHOULD be the same. Then again, this is Ford we are talking about here anything under the sun could have come on the truck
