what my buddy did with his, was made it out of like a sheet board, he made a once piece, he got a regular cab taped it up measured it from where it ended to where it should end at the back of the cab, laid it out traced it used his measurements and made a mock up, trimmed it down, covered it and put a light in it, (oh and it makes it way easy if you pull the back window out to do this)
does the mechanical fuel pump on a 76 390 big block have to be primed? I just replaced mine and my truck still refuses to start unless gas is poured directl into the carb. help and advice please?

I never had to prime the fuel pump. It was a plug and play thing. Did you disconnect the fuel hose that connects to the carb and try and crank it over to see if you have fuel coming out of the hose? If you dont have fuel coming out then you either have 1) a bad fuel pump or 2) a clogged fuel line or 3) the lever on the fuel pump isnt under the camshaft to move it up and down to pump fuel to the carb.
I'm still looking for a 2wd shortbed crew if anyone sees a nice one around. I don't want a non running project. I've looked at a few and couldn't iron things out before someone else snagged them.
try oldfordcrewcabs.com or even searchtempist.com (it searches all craigslist in specified area) to try and find you one
+1 and when on craigslist check them all, when you use Search Tempest some people dont write down crew cab in the description. Took me about 6 months but I found the year I wanted about 600 miles away and I was looking for a 73 or 74 High Boy crew. I then flew out and drove it back. If they realize they have a somewhat rare truck it wont be cheap. I have seen quite a few for sale since I bought mine but you might need to travel a bit. My rule is if I really want it I'll go 1000 miles to get it as its just a long days drive back if you fly out. My last ride I bought I went 1000 miles for and drove back 15 hrs the same day. It gets me real close to 50 mpg and saves me about $500.00 to $ 600.00 a month and only cost me $2500.00 so to me it was worth it.
i got lucky i found mine only about 45miles away and spent 2k for the truck, cost me an engine later down the road (cuz the guy didnt tell me the connecting rod to the piston was loose)(broke off and the rod cut my block in half)
I found my crew on OFCC and had to fly up and drive it home. I bought it sight unseen and just hoped for the best, lucky for me its been great so far and was able to drive me all the way home without any problems what so ever. The PO was able to deliver it to my inlaws house locally to him. It worked out great that I had the truck too, my inlaws were moving and my wifey wanted all their nice furniture so I hooked up the trailer full of stuff to the truck, crossed my fingers and drove all the way down the CA coast getting 16 MPG. Couldnt be happier or luckier to have found the truck and have the cash in hand to grab it.
