I have a 2004 FX4 Supercrew with a 5.4 and I just bought the Edge Evo and it should be here on Monday. My question is, I usually run 89 octane and I was wondering whats the best setting to have it on and if I should change the timing and/or shift points, and lets say I use the level 2 setting do I have to change it back to stock to get it on the level 3 setting. Thanks for the help

Well if you run 89 octane, you should be able to take advantage of the level 2 tune, and optimize the timing +1 full degree advance. Rule of thumb.... two octane points up or down, you can adjust the timing 1 full degree. Also, you do not need to return to stock to change tunes. Just pick the tune you want, customize or not, and away you go!

So if I wanna run 89 octane on Level 3 I should advance the timing +3?

No, level 3 is a minimum of 91 Octane. You cannot run that tune, with 89 (or you can, but you would have to run the timing -1 degree).

Would there be a reason why this unit cannot be used on a brand new truck? I am definitely liking what I hear about it, but my truck only has about 50 miles on it. I am going to be towing my girlfriend's Nissan Altima from Florida to Oregon in a couple months, and would like a little more power for the trip if possible. I am guessing the truck will have about 800 miles on it by then. Also, am I correct that regular 87 octane will still have a noticeable effect in level 2? I don't particularly want to run more expensive gas when I am filling up 3 times a day for a week.

Hello Wake,
Not sure of all the answers to your questions, BUT, As to the 87 and tow mode.....
Edge website states the tow mode is for 87 octane. You should have no problem with that at all. Most of the threads I have read here state they are using the 87 octane "tow mode" with good results.
As to age, I cant see why it would make any other problems.

Good Luck and have a safe trip.

I use 87 octane and tow mode on a constant basis. I run it like that every day not towing. I also run it this way while towing. It makes a huge difference without it. I don't sse a problem with putting it on a new truck. I would however reccomend making sure you are within Fords guide lines for break in before towing. I think it's 500 or 800 miles.

i have a question. i just got the edge and i have been playing with the custom tuning and i happend to get outstanding results with one of my setups. but i tried so many combos i dont remeber exact settings! i know around what entered but not exacty. is there a way i can go back and look to see what im on? i am afraid if i put it back on tow and then go back to level 3 i wont have my custom tune. once i go to the track i will post up what i run the 1/4 mile timeon the edge was very close to what i ran at the track stock. so i hope what it is saying now after being programed is correct. thanks mike c

Load previous settings will put all the settings you have now back up . If you have changed all settings and reprogrammed again then you have no way of getting them to come back up unless you enter them again. you can load all your settings in different programs or levels though.

OS compatibility

Just thought I would let everyone know -

Spent about an hour trying to get my edge setup with my computer.
Spent anouther hour with edge customer help on the phone.

No compatibility for the edge and 64 bit operating systems.
I am running XP64 professional.
Had to take it to my girlfriend's house and use her 2 yr old computer.
Had no problems with her comp.

Hope this helps - as I had to waste 2 hours to obtain this info.

Lightning software also doesn't like Windows ME either. I tried for almost 2 days with no luck. I called Tech support and they couldn't fix it. I loaded it on my buddys laptop with XP and downloaded it from the front seat of the truck with the wireless card. Older operating systems are not always supported with new hardware or software programs.

hi guys! went to the track and made multiple runs with different settings and the best 1/4 mi. time was a 16.79! edge settings are lvel3,wot fuel all the way!,shift firmness all the way! shift rpms are stock for all ! my truck is 06,crewcab,4x4,lariat,325/60/20. mods are as follows edge tuner,k&n,catback exhuast. i didnt think this was bad considering the weight and the four wheel drive. also rear gears are a 3.73. i amgoing to a true dual exhaust with an x pipe and a crossover pipe. cant afford the supercharger yet!
