Just a quick question?? If it is too damn cold for electronics, how come the rest of the electronics work?

Well the Edge is perched right next to two windows, which if memory serves... glass is not the best insulator in single pane applications. All of the other electronics are tucked into the dash. I would venture a guess that being next to the two major heat sinks (ie windows) slows the response time. Also, how many other electronic devices in the truck have small LCD screens? I know that on the real cold days, my radio also is slow to respond. Simple current running through a cold substrate is one thing... when you are throwing hot electricity into the liquid crystals that have a much lower temperature than the typical operating parameters, performance will definitely suffer.

And, the poster mentioned that it had been -22F. That is not within any "typical" electronic devices operating range.

Rich,
I was just joking with you, as I live in Southern California where we don't get below 40F in the winter (if that) I feel for you guys.

But while we're on the subject, I don't remember any mention of LCD screens in your post, you stated "Electronics". (another bad joke on my part, I guess I'm in a Smart A** mood. Stay warm, it was ~ 65F here today...

Well this is a thread about a product with an LCD screen, so I just kind of figured.... I will be in that weather shortly. It was 4 degrees here today, but I am flying into SoCal on Saturday. Don't go moving that warmth off before I get there!

on cold, cold starts the starting system drops below 12 volts, thus no display. I start truck, unplug tuner from port wait 10 sec. plug back in no problem. This I was directed to do by EDGE.

edge

When I do that, I lose the average MPG and sometimes the screen turns a different color. Sometimes when I shut off the vehicle, the screen will stay illuminated and eventually might rund down the battery. Luckily I caught it after a couple hours after seeing a green glow coming form my truck.

That is exactly the problem. The cold causes the battery to lose a little juice and the edge doesn't have a contant 12 volts to start up. You can unplug the tuner and plug it back in and it should be fine.

Sounds right. I had started to take my display in at night and putting it in when I start the truck in the morning. It lights up when the truck starts and loses the display. After 10 - 15 minutes driving shut off the truck and restart it come on.

Does anyone know if starting the truck with a autostart without the display in will cause problems?

Edge

I don't understand why one should have to take their Edge in every night. I don't have to remove my radio, remote start, or any other electronics every time the temps drop below 20*.
Today my truck did not start for some dumb *** reason! I went to work this morning with no problems, left at lunch and shut off my truck but changed from level 3 to level 2 before getting out. After about an hour I went to start the truck and it turned over a little slow and my gauges went crazy. I went for a short ride then went to restart the vehicle and it was dead, again gauges went crazy. I returned program to stock and still nothing so I got a jump start. The rest of the day everything has been fine.

WHAT THE HELL!!!!!!!

Has anyone had to take the Edge out to return to the dealer for problems? If so what did you do to try to reset the computer and did it work?

edged

i have had the edge now for a few days. out of the box i had some issues but after talking w/edge tech we got it narrowed down to the tire size not programmed correctly. but i must say wow!!! i have the unit set on level 2 and so far could not be happier.
cant wait to try out level 3 when this tank of 87 is empty.
one draw back i find is i cant seem to keep my foot off the go pedal..
love this thing...

Unhappy

bcoates,
Yes I had to pull mine out because of problems. Before I pulled it I set it back to the stock program and the truck runs OK. I contacted both the dealer and Edge Products. The dealer stated that they would refund my money but I decided to return it to Edge. Haven't heard anything back so far... not sure if I will reinstall it if/when I get it back.
The truck ran like crap and it scared the crap out of me, thinking I screwed up my new Screw.
