What is the greatest mileage (from your experience) you have seen a tuned 6.0 operate? What setting were the trucks on? What issues/problems have come up i.e. tranny, motor, rearend, cooling, tires, tickets, etc.?
I haven't personally seen more than 18 MPG, but some are claiming 20 on the 6.0. I don't know how accurate the 20 MPG claim is. The average seems to be 14-18 tuned and 12-16 untuned for the 6.0
I've got some 7.3 trucks out there making a true hand-calculated 21 MPG on the highway.
Rick Doern hauls his race car everywhere and he's getting 20 MPG pulling his race car with his 7.3
On a trip to Hemet this past weekend I got 18.5 on the way up and 22.6 on the way back. It is slightly more up hill on the way there and there are several hills with multi hundred foot climbs up and down each way.
The two way average mileage then is 20.55 MPG. This is with the High Performance tune loaded. Most of the time I was driving 75 to 80 MPH, but one time I did briefly verify that the truck's speed limiter doesn't kick in before the needle goes off the chart - 102 MPH on the GPS. This might account in part for the measely 18.5 MPG
Agreed Vic....I get 12-14 in city with a very lite foot and 14 -16 on highway....wish I say I have gotten more. That is stock and using SCMT high and economy...loaded and unloaded.
I just got back from dealer so thought it would be better, as they had it 3 weeks, injector problem, oil leak at front of motor, and exhaust leak which would smoke you out of truck at a stop light....
runs smoother, but mileage not better. Not that I thought it would be

Drive a V10 for a few weeks....you'll be much happier with your diesel =o)
Just like to say thanks, to Vic and Superchips. Sent tuner in last Monday for update, got it back on Friday. Four day turn around thanks again. I like new shifts great job.

Well, it looks like I pick up my '05 Excursion next Tuesday. Needless to say I'm anxiously looking forward to the annoucement of the '05 SCMT. One question ... My main goal in buying a SCMT (besides the occasional "thrill ride") is to improve my fuel mileage as much as possible. That means I'll probably use the Economy setting almost exclusively and look for lower RPM shift points. Here's the question:
If the '05 unit doesn't already have lower shift points engineered into the economy program, Is it possible for me to contact Motorhaven and have them sell me a unit that get's drop shipped directly from you after you set the shift points to a lower RPM? I'd love to "cut to the chase" right from the get-go if possible, rather than having to send a brand new unit right back to where it just came from...
Of course, for all I know you've already addressed this and have the '05 SCMT's programmed for lower rpm shifts in Economy mode.
Look forward to your answer, and to getting my new X "Pumped Up!"
Regards,
Steve
ps -- to all ... Anyone want to guestimate what kind of mileage I ought to expect on an '05 Excursion driven "gingerly?" Any opinions (and suggestions) are appreciated! Thanks!!
I own a 2005 F350 6.0 Dually, 4:11 gears. A few days ago, I drove about 50 miles at 60 mpg and got 13.9. Yesterday I went about a hundred miles driving as fast as I could and doing fast take offs and got 15.1. This is on the lie o meter, but I reset before each trip and I would think the results would be relative to each other. It seemed the harder I drove it the better fuel mileage I got.
I also am waiting for the new chip.
I typically was seeing 17 - 19 stock. I so rarely get a chance to hit the highway except when towing that I don't have much history of before and after.
I've tried out all the modes but when not towing I'm generally in HP mode so again no good baseline. Problem is that most of my driving is 4 miles to work and back with around 600 ft of overall elevation change in between. So I'm usually seeing around 12ish for a tankfull of that. Any real city driving at all and it jumps up quite a bit.

It should be noted that lower shift points do not necessarily improve fuel mileage. In fact, shifting too soon results in more LOAD at the bottom of the next gear (lugging effect) and often times more fuel consumption.
Wierd eh?
Load affects fuel consumption more than RPM....it's a fact...especially in a non-normally aspirated engine.
Anyway, part throttle shift points are near stock.
I have not yet tested fuel mileage on any long trips with an 05.

There is a definite sweet spot in turbocharged engines where the load, rpm and boost are optimal for best fuel mileage. It's quite likely that I (driving moderate to aggressive)would get better fuel mileage then your average soccer mom in the same truck.
Are there updates for the 1704 to modify gear ratio/tire sizes in the works? or will speedo programming not be possible through the use of the programmer?
