Superchips 6.0 Microtuner Thread
I'll look forward to "energizing" my Excursion when the new units are available ... any guess as to the time frame at this point?
Thanks Again,
Steve

As soon as I get back, I'm back on the project.
...Dunno yet.
As soon as I get back, I'm back on the project.

Picked up my '05 Excursion Limited (Mineral Gray w/Chrome Running Boards and almost every other factory option) today and WOW am I happy! I bought this thing after test driving a used 03 Eddie Bauer and oh what a difference! The '05 is significantly quieter, rides better (granted the '03 had some miles on it), and has better pickup out of the box! I also like the new door handles versus the older models, as well as a few other nice touches.
I'm REALLY looking forward to applying the SCMT treatment, but for now I'm like a kid in a toy store playing with all the great gadgets!
Regards, and Happy New Year!
Steve
I am now itching to get the SCMT and wonder if I should wait programming it until after the trip? I will have 4 adults, and several hundred lbs of cargo on the trip.
What setting would be safe to use on the hilly mountain terrain at 7200 ft above see level? Will the tranny adjust in one day of driving or is this pushing it?
Truck has 6200 miles on it and I am still concerned about it being fully broken in and eventually disturbing my warranty. How easy are the tuner mods to erase again, something about setting back to stock several times while turned off?
Please help, I have no exhaust/intake upgrades and warranty is a seriously valueable asset, I have the 6yr 100K warranty and would like to keep it. But the bang for the buck power is too tempting.
Please help w/ personal experiences.

I've towed with 10,000 lb on the Econo tune and not seen excessive EGTs. This is a little higher than the recommended 8000 lb limit for the Econo tune by SC but I wanted to see what kind of EGTs I would get on some of the mountain grades. Not really worse than stock.
Given that you can tow up to 4000 lb on the High Performance tune I think that you could use it and see no problems with four adults and some cargo.
If for some reason you did see high temps, simply pull over and plug in the tuner and reflash to the next tune down. Takes less than 10 minutes.
I've done a lot of switching forth and back between the different tunes and never given the tranny learning a second thought. The shifting is fine right after loading the new tune. It is more of a problem for the Predator guys I think.
By the way except for the gauges and brake controller (and SCMT) my truck is otherwise stock, no exhaust mods. I've taken the truck in for service and simply set the tune back to stock. Nothing more than that, no removing the battery power, no chanting at the moon while waving a dead chicken, etc.

It was ordered on 12/09/04 and was the only mod done to the truck this far and money spent well.

I'll give you another call after the beginning of the year; I'm sure you guys will be busy for the first few days of the year.
I still have the Banks box installed, and I’m still waiting on a chance to get to the dyno before removing it for good. I do like the SCMT tune better, but since the Banks box has to "learn" tranny shifts in stages (0-60 runs at each higher setting of the Banks box), I am wondering if the SCMT stores the "learned" transmission shifting when it stores the stock program. I ask because I'm taking a long road trip and want to see how the SCMT does on a 600 mile trip, but have "taught" the tranny all the way up to level 6 in anticipation of going to the Dyno, which I will not be able to do until I return. I just hate to lose all the “learning” that it took to get up to level 6… 10+ 0-6 runs and 5+ 30-60 runs No worries- I never run the Banks box above stock when using the SCMT.

After you load in the tuner in a stock truck, it should learn pretty fast (like one WOT run). 1704 is nearly instant learn on most trucks, but those inline devices have caused many a demon (though temporary) in some transmissions and sometimes takes a little extra time.
Edit/Addition:
Doh!
And to answer your question.
What you have learned will re-learn to the 1704 shifting shortly after the 1704 is installed.
