I live in Casselberry, which is abut 15 minutes from Orlando. I went to New Smyrna beach last night and NO ONE was there.
Kinda weird, right now the weather is perfect. It's seriously the *perfect* beach day.
I've been tooling around town all day running errands like I'm on vacation. I'm having a "hurricaine party" at the house tonight. (An excuse for everyone to get wrecked =o)
By 1:00 Sunday morning, we should be getting slammed pretty hard.
My house has hinged iron bars with mechanical latches over all of the windows, and also on the front door/back porch...so it's pretty safe.
I spent an hour or so during Charlie on the back porch watching transformers blow up. The look is indescribeable....It's almost like northern lights. They blow somewhere every few seconds and you see an electric green-blue color fill up the sky. You rarely hear any thunder or see much lightning, it's mostly rain, LOTS of wind, and the only light in the sky is the transformers blowing up. Trees usually bend in ways you didnt think was possible. If you hear a sound like a freight train, you better be inside because it means tornado.
Charlie hit us for a little over an hour, but this storm is so big it could last 15-18 hours.
I was only without power for a day after Charlie. If its longer than a day this time, I'll throw down for a generator big enough to power the entire house.
Anyways, besides the loss of electricity inconvenience, I love this hurricaine stuff =o)

Take care Vic. And remember to change the oil in your generator every 50 hours. That's only a couple of days run time... I always use synthetic. If there ever was a real need for synthetic it's in small engines.
No filter, cooler, or huge sump of oil. And they work their butt off all the time.
Good Luck.
Happy to read you are back...is everything as well as can be expected?
Yeah.
I lost power for 20 hours during Charlie and only 20 minutes during Frances. Looks like Ivan is gonna come whoop some butt.
I lost one tree that I wanted to cut down and part of a fence that needed replacing anyway =o)
That damn tree used to drop these little spiny spheres that look like little floating mines and I had to sweep them up almost daily because they would trash the back porch and gazebo.
Yeah.

All the time I have spent down in Florida I have seen those spiny things always wondered what they where called...weird looking things...I know they taste like...
Ivan does look as though he has a very bad attitude.
He is a CAT 5...now

Those are from a sweet gum tree. good wood to burn but extremely hard to split as the grain runs crazy. Hurts like heck when you step on them barefoot too.

You don't know how many times I've jumped out of the hot tub directly onto one of them. They are evil.
