Superchips 6.0 Microtuner Thread
I have questions, but I am getting no answers. I called one time,
and the tech I talked to seemed cold, unwilling to answer my questions,
and just down right rude. I am interested in their product,
but I am leary of their customer support.
I have had mu 1704 Superchip for almost two weeks now, and I am happy to say I have had two other people buy your tuner since then. The last just got his on Monday and installed it yesterday in his 2002 Excursion 6.0....with over 100,000 miles on it(yes,100,000 miles). He got the re-flash on Monday, and I asked him to call me when he did the install. I got a call about 2:30pm in my office, and Tom was absolutely laughing with joy! He told me his Excursion eas running much better after the flash, but he really hadn't fully believed me about the power increase. He said he stabbed it from a dead stop, and as soon as the turbo spooled up the wheels broke loose and left 2 black stripes, shift, spinning again!
Boy, this is fun!

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
As you know, I appreciate the performance improvement, but I'm really after better mileage. I seek the much-talked-about "from 1-4 MPG improvement over stock."
Results are preliminary because I just finished an 800 mile run in ECON mode with nice controlled driving and no confounds. My STOCK number is from a preceding 2000 mile run (obtained while the tuner was back in FL for new tranny files). I'm one of the folks that prefers softer shifts. Or at least my truck does.
Preliminary also because that 2000 miles includes a 1350 round trip from MD to GA. Generally, I get better mileage on the highway than I do on more my normal daily commutes. So, if the ECON number is better than the STOCK number, the difference should be even more pronounced as I obtain STOCK mileage without the trip. I had some trailer towing confound earlier STOCK testing. The trip and this STOCK number doesn't include any towing. Also, it was cooler in June than it was in late July/Aug, and my truck was pretty new on 5/27 (3402 miles). I'll post the updated STOCK number as soon as I have them. The next 800 miles will me much more typical, and the truck's at 8500 miles now.
Here are the results. All MPG values are hand calculated, and fills are to nearly running over. I now know my lie-o-meter reads exactly .5MPG high.
STOCK: 2033 miles; 5/27-6/03; 16.40 MPG
ECON: 832 miles; 7/19-8/05; 16.87 MPG
0.43 MPG (2.9%) better with the tune. Provided my STOCK MPG drops, I may get the 1 MPG improvement. But I strongly doubt it will be any greater.
After you drive it a bit everything will get better as your truck goes through the adaptive learning sequence with the new program. Drive normal for several miles with a number of stops and starts to get everything settled in. You'll find that even in the economy mode this thing just keeps winding and making unbelievable power. I have noticed that shifting in Economy mode will be pretty harsh after a couple of hard runs from a standstill, but will mellow back out after driving normally for a while. As far as the turbo lag, it's just the way it is. Try building boost from a standstill by holding the brake and rev up the engine to 1600 - 1800 rpm release brake, floor it, hang on! Enjoy!

First you need throttle, then the engine gets fuel/air, and you don't start to build boost until there is LOAD.
The 04's have a crazy dead throttle in stock form and this is noticeably better now, but you still gotta wait for spoolup to rip the pavement.

No, I'm not telling you to do this. It is a fair amount of torque and may cause damage if done repeatedly. I'm just telling you what is fun =o)
