I sent my 1704 back for re-tuning because of harsh shifting especially 2-4. When I got it back I was initally pleased with the change. Now after a while, the harsh shifting seems to be back. I can't quite figure it out. Sometimes it shifts smoothly but most of the time it snaps your head back a bit. I'm sure there's a good reason to update the transmission settings from stock when we boost the power but this cure seems worse than the problem. I'll call Superchips, ask for a RMA# and send it back again for another try. If we can get the shifting issues fixed, I'll be one happy camper. It would be nice if we had some options in the programmer to adjust shift settings.
Anyone besides me having a problem with the cruise control? When I'm on the freeway and need to dis-engage the cruse control, I get a bump in the drivetrain. It happens both when I tap the brakes and / or turn it off at the steering wheel regardless of the throttle setting. I mentioned it as an issue when I sent it back to Superchips the first time but the problem remains. The stock Ford programming for the cruise control always dis-engaged smoothly.

Ford has a number of TSB's regarding issues with cruise control and maintaining speed. They are aware of this problem.
Call superchips for an RA regarding your shifting. There are some adaptive properties that can cause a firmer shift over time, especially with higher power levels.
I too see the rough shifting and have quite a clunk when disengaging the cruise control when running in Econo mode. Early 03 build truck. Cruise is fine in stock mode. I sent the tuner back for an update and it shifted just fine until the first time I made a hard run from a standstill. The only way to "soften" it back up is to flash back to stock tune, then flash to the tune you want. It will shift just fine until the first time you get in it hard. It is apparently something about the adaptive learn process that doesn't get along well with the SCMT transmission tables. Maybe if enough of us call Superchips and complain, they will allocate Vic the time to fix the problem. I'm sure a problem such as this which only occurs on some trucks is a tough one to diagnose.
BTW, Looks like Vic was spared the hurricane this time and it was sent our way. I'm located halfway between Mobile, AL and Pensacola, FL. It's beginning to get nasty out there!

Mine does exactly the same thing with the cruise control. This is Superchips related....period! I have not experienced it with any of the other tuners I have used.
The shifting is a big concern with me because Superchips swore they fixed the harsh shifting problems with the 5.01 version. I even called Superchips to verify this and was told 5.01 fixed it. I also have a flat spot while accelerating with the SC1704, right before the power comes on, the boost will go up but the truck doesn't accelerate any more. The power delivery with the SC1704 is like a switch, it has what feels like stock power till about 2500 rpms or so then a switch is flipped and the power is all on. Think of how a 2 cycle motorcycle is and that is how I feel my truck with the SC1704 is. All the other tuners deliver power at a much lower rpm and deliver the power over a longer range.
Vic, I have already sent Superchips the tuner at my cost for the update (almost three weeks later from shipping) I had only had it for a couple of days and now I have to turn around and send it back again for another re-program. How do I avoid this cost again?
"Your tuner "works", you are not partial to a firm shift, but some users are."
I can't imagine the general public prefers part throttle tire chirping. Having a firm yet civilized shift is what I would say most people want. With the way my tuner works Superchips should advertise "Up to 150hp with extremely harsh shifting" to be fair.
If I call Superchips with my problem who should I ask for that knows what they are talking about and do you honestly feel the shifting issues will be resolved?

Make sure you are specific with customer service about the issues you are having. It will come to me and I will call you and we'll work it out. I will most likely get a truck in, flash it to your stock files and test it.
you cannot be specific with SUPERCHIPS customer service because they are looking out for only SUPERCHIPS. I hate companies with big name customer service, there the worst.
WickedF250 - Give the guy a chance - he is trying to help you!
Kurt....
I appreciate what you say.
Some do not understand that I'm the guy who does the tuning just in here to give some extra info and have a little fun. This is a forum for discussion.
and i am not bashing you Vic...........dont take it personnaly.........What I am saying is that SUPERCHIPS has poor policies regarding there customer service, very poor.
Well I sent my SC1704 back in for "VIC" to look at it for me. I talked to I think Brian from SC and he laughed at me when I told him that "VIC told me to call and explain the problems I am having and to send in my SC" After further clairification "Vic" is a fictional name used for this forum, don't ask for "vic" as you may be laughed at as I was.
BTW, I asked if I could explain what was happening and after I said "harsh shifting" he heard enough and was not open to further explaination of what my problems were. He gave me a number and said send it in. I had to remind him of the expense I was going through to send this in now twice in 30 days. He then explained to leave a receipt and they will reimburse me. I problably will not get reimbursed for the first time I sent it in though.
This is a valid post on this thread as the service of a product is just as important as the product itself in my opinion. I don't care for the service I have received.
