Thanks. I am not trying to keep the DAX1, and it is probably mymisunderstanding, I don't want to purchase the miocrotuner if I had to be new hardware also. If all I need to do is go to the dealer and ask for the latest flash, the I will. My truck was updated once in 10/04.
If it was updated in Oct / '04 than it is probably already ready for the SCMT. My '05 was built in August of '04 (It's actually an '04 in "disguise") and it was ready from the get-go. You probably have the same "flash" I have, if not a newer one.

Well, at this point you don't even need to go to Ford.
So now, how about an answer to my tranny tuning question, Vic/Jim? Any hope for us fuel economy hounds (if you missed it I posted it two pages ago, and re-posted it on the last page)?
Would you please go back several posts and answer my "Tranny tuning" question? I'm confident you already know the answer, at least where it concerns the 1704. I'm sure the group will be interested to know about anything that might positively impact on fuel economy!
Thanks in advance!
Steve
This will require much more of a "write-up" than a simple answer.
It's a pretty complex matter when you start getting into it, and I don't want to give any short answers that can cause assumptions.
I've been really busy, but I'll try to get something done to answer this soon.
Just installed the HP tune from the 1704, replacing my banks setup that I love so much (not really).
Immediately after the install:
A) I did an accidental burn out. oops. It really was accidental. But I did have a really big grin on my face afterward.
B) At the first stop I noticed I had to apply the brakes just a little bit more to stop compared to w/o the 1704. Don't know if this is related to your post Planecrazy, or I'm just crazy. It also "feels" like it coasts a little better. Will update w/ mpg changes after a couple fill-ups.
wow, realy don't have time to go through 160 pages of stuff, so i'll just post this. I took my truck into ford for oil change. They reflashed my computer(i had taken the tune off and returned to stock). No i tried to retune and the tuner says can't tune, my upgrade or something and gave me some codes. What do i do now?

Sorry if this has been covered in this post.

Call Superchips to get a Return Authorization number, if youve got some sort of proof of purchase for the unit they will update it for free.
I have been cruising through some of the chats in this thread and seem to have found some good opinions, but still unsure on some things. My '05 has nearly 10K trouble free miles on it. I ordered it new and picked it up on Feb. 2, '05. Is it ready for a tuner now, without taking it to Ford for a flash upgrade? Also, I have an aFe stage II intake already on my truck and am getting ready to install a cat-back exhaust on it. It sounds like these should work great with a tuner/programmer. I was actually leaning towards the SuperChips tuner, but am not sure. I have heard very few negative comments about it. I was told by a Predator tech/sales rep that ALL tuners, including theirs, run hotter (meaning EGT's) than a module. Is this true? My main goal is to increase MPG, with a moderate increase in power, and to keep my EGT's down, all while reataining factory reliablility. Also, has anyone ever heard of any problems with using tuners, i.e. fried ECM or other electrical components? I guess the bottom line is what are the main advantages/disadvantages beteween a module and a tuner? I know there are several questions here. Thanks in advance for any info.

Reason: spelling
cwick...first of all, consider going turbo back with the exhaust. It won't cost much more money and the larger downpipe will really help reduce your EGT's. As many have said, if you get a tuner, it's a good idea, as well as cheap insurance to get an EGT gauge to monitor your exhuast temps. I just purchased a SuperChips tuner and gauges. Neither have arrived yet, but I can't wait to get them installed. Fuel mileage is a touchy subject that involves many variables in climate, altitude, driving habbits etc. so what one person is getting may be impossible for another. I ordered mine to increase the fun while driving, not necessarily MPG, but that won't hurt either.
Thanks for the input. I was considering the full exhaust, but I was told by the Predator rep that upgrading to a T-back exhausts would actually DECREASE my performance by about 50 HP, due to loss of TOO MUCH back pressure. This was with the predator module. I really don't want to run guages. I only really want a 65HP module, such as the Xillaraider XZT/edge EZ, or run a tuner on the lowest setting. I was told by a tech at PowerHouse Diesel that I could run the SuperChips tuner at the 67HP (tow setting) all day long without guages and have absolutely no problems, especially since I already have the aFe stage II and am planning to do the exhaust. I have got several different opinions on the full T-back exhaust, but most shops have said the cat-back replaces the stock muffler and that's the biggest problem with the factory exhaust. Does anyone know if the SuperChips tuner preformance will actually be DECREASED by installing the T-back exhaust? Either way I will probably go with a Diamond Eye or an MBRP. I have also considered the AeroTurbine muffler.
I have a 2004 F250 FX4 6.0 with the AFE air box, 4 inch Magnaflow Turbo back exhaust and the 1704-a running the HP tune with 36k trouble free miles. All I can say with this setup is HOLD ON! Sound like alot of you have the Air boxes and exhaust, you just need to get a SCMT to finish the package off. I coudn't be happier

With a Gas Motor, there is some back pressure that needs to remain, but from what I have read and been told, the least amount of backpressure possible with the diesel, the better. I think the guy that told you that you would lose horsepower is grossly mistaken or misguided. I would question the other advise he has given you as well, because this one is kind of a biggy. Vicferrari may chime in and he would know best because he has ran many trucks with various mods on the dyno.
