I get what seems like a driveline "howl" around that speed as well, but haven't thought to check and see if it happens in stock mode (I have an appointment with the dealer on Tuesday, and have detuned the truck already), but maybe I'll check in the next day or two. The "howl" disappears when I ease off the throttle, but I don't think it's a boost related sound ... I get the impression it's originating from the tranny or drive shaft.
Its odd you mention this I have that same annoying sound and often let off to slow down and make it go away. My truck is stock and new........

It might be a u-joint or your rear diff whining under light load.
It may just need to break in, or may need to be fixed.
The truck now has almost 11K on the clock ... how much break-in does a u-joint or rear diff require??
I would tend to agree with your assessment, Vic, but taking it to the dealer for evaluation and repair would be challenging at best, because Illinois doesn't have speed limits over 65 and the sound really asserts itself when I get well in excess of that ... and you are correct in that the whine asserts itself at moderate throttle, although it becomes a dull roar when I'm over 80 with any kind of throttle (louder with more fuel, though).
The noise I hear is almost certainly boost/pressure related. I am going to check all clamps associated with the pressurized air intake plumbing.
Vic, any thoughts on my post from the previous page?

Hmm........I hope you don't have any turbo issues.
Make sure there are no boost leaks...it may be time to set to stock and visit the dealer.
Another possibility:
I know as I was leaving superchips, Bryan made a few minor changes to the VGT settings. These changes were applied to some of my files as part of ongoing R&D.
You could be having an issue with the vanes on your turbo, you could have a simple boost leak somewhere, or an issue with your calibration.
What what you describe, it does not sound like drive train at all.

Here's a question for you that I think will greatly interest everyone on the forum ...
I just picked my Excursion up from the dealer, and got into a nice conversation with the tech who worked on the truck today. I asked him some general questions about the X, specifically about long term issues to watch for. Among other things, he mentioned that the tranny might wear out sooner than expected because of a programming change that Ford made in response to customer complaints that the brakes were wearing out too quickly.
Apparently instead of explaining to these people that they were driving an 8000 pound vehicle, and that the brakes were going to wear more quickly than in a regular vehicle, Ford decided to program the tranny to allow for more engine braking. The tech told me that this takes a predictable "hit" on fuel mileage, which we all want more of. He also told me that at least one company makes a product that corrects for this. My question is: Does the 1704's revised tranny program also correct for this, in addition to changing the shift points, and if not, do you think Superchips might make the adjustment for us if enough of us ask?

I have a roar in my new 06 crewcab diesel 4x4 while cruising at 75 on up. I think this is the sound the other poster was referring to. You can let off the gas or slow to 70 or below and it will quit. Faster you go the louder it will roar.......Its almost like the moan of the old four barrel carbs when you got on it.....
UPS came today new 1805 under the tree! Can't wait until Christmas!!!!!!!!
Wow if you could only see the smile on my face.....The 1805 flashpaq is sooooo simple even I did it. I went straight to the performance instal and just can't beleive it. All from a small handheld package its amazing the performance that my truck now has. BTW it will go past the 100 mark now! Went to the Superchips site and found they will offer updates in mid January.....What else could they offer? Merry Christmas!
I have an 05 f-350 with 35" tires. I am looking at getting a tuner and like the 1805 due to features. What kind of updates will be available? Better tuning? Will the tire size just adjust the speedo or will it recalculate shift points and such. Does it do the same thing as going to the dealer and having them recalibrate? besides leaving it in when returned to stock. Thanks.
I'm sure it's in this forum somewhere but the search wouldn't turn it up. What does Superchips charge to reprogram a tuner if you are not the original owner?
Whether you're the original owner or not you don't need to "reprogram" the tuner unless you try to use it and it says "Contact Superchips" (or something like that). As long as the previous owner set his truck back to "stock" before selling it to you it will perform as "new in the box." If he sold you a unit that is "VIN locked," get your money back from the P.O.
The only reason you'd normally have to send the unit back to Superchips is if Ford "flashed" your computer with a very new set of files that isn't already in the SCMT's memory bank. By the way, NEVER take your truck to Ford unless you've put it back to "stock" tune, because if you do and they reflash the computer you'll lose your tune AND have to pay Superchips big $$ to reset your SCMT. Also, if Ford detects the tune they might choose to void your warranty.
Regards,
Steve

I traded my 03 in on an 06 so the 1704 tuner won't work for me. A buddy of mine has an 03 and the tuner says "Contact Superchips" when he tries to load the program. I know he has a later "flash" than I had, and I don't have the sales slip.
I don't know if you need your sales slip to send the unit in to Superchips for an upgrade ... Just tell them you're the original owner (you are, after all), and answer any questions they have. Once you have the unit back he should be all set, because the SCMT stores the info (from the failed attempt to tune HIS truck), and Superchips uses that info to update your unit with the proper adjustments.
I'm not sure if it even matters that he's the second owner, but Vic will know more about that.
