Perfectly normal in HP mode. Also it should not effect your oil changes. I run 8000 miles on my oil in HP mode and it always comes back with positive results. Now my tranny is another story.
Thanks for the info that looks about right black smoke that is. I figured as much but wanted to check.
With oil changes I am religious evry 5000 it get oil change and tire rotation every 30,000 all fluids get changed and I mean all. the last diesel I got 380,000 miles and it was running strong when it left, the 99 yukon I traded last year on this SD had 265,000 and they are still driving it today.
I love my SD all the comforts of home and and you can ****** a not it hell if need be.
Next will be Lockers all around and then winch with bumper
Hey this is a great forum and I have gleemed lots of info from it. Now it's time to post and ask a question.
I have a 03 F350 SD 6.0 4x4 running 305x70r16 and no muffler. I just purchased a superchips flashpaq. I am happy with the power increase, but was a little disapointed in the low end.
My question is when I hit the pedal to take off there seems to be a slite 2 or 3 second hesatation and clouds of black smoke. Any time I kick it in to pass, rapid start I can't see the cars behind me through the smoke.
now I don't have a problem with this smoke other than the cost of more frequent oil changes.
Is the normal for this tuner or do I need to do some adjustments
It's normal.
You can use less throttle if you don't want smoke, or use a lower HP program.
The hesitation is torque converter flash, notice the RPMs do climb during the hesitation, then the truck slingshots into action.
Hi Vic quick question. 2006 with 3800 miles... Just got 1706 and installed. Running in economy mode. Should I have waited until there is more milage on the motor, ie better break-in???

No need to wait.
Heck, I had people wailing on their trucks with 100 miles on them, lol (not that I would necessarily recommend it = )
At 3800 miles your fine. Drive it like you normally would and follow Fords break-in procedure.
Thanks Vic. I'll "BABY" it for another few thousand before I lay into it. Eventually I need to get a EGT gauge then I can go out and smoke those cheap contiental tire that came on it. Horrible for snow and ice.
PS Thanks again. I'm pretty sure someone else has asked this but with 164 pages I would be here all day searching via dial up.

So have a question. First of all noticed a gain of 4-5 mpg in both tow-safe and economy. Havent tried Hi perf yet. Will wait until I get better gauges. While I was in Anchorage shopping I pulled out into traffic. As I let of the gas pedal to slow down the truck accelerator surged and the tranny dropped down a gear or two. I hit the brakes to stop this and it went away. Been 800 miles since that has happen and hasent doen it since. Was the tranny just learning???? Just curious....
There is a significant price difference between the two models, and if the buyer has no interest in the "extras" then the 1706 might still be a desirable choice.
I have a 1704 (which works with the '03 through very early '05 trucks) that I replaced with a Flashpaq, but only because I'm looking forward to some of the "future features" that are supposed to be available in terms of performance monitoring, etc. If I didn't have that interest I would have stuck with the 1704 I already have and enjoy.
By the way, if anybody wants to make me a reasonable offer for my 1704 it IS available and "like new!"
Since we don't sell things in the tech forums, if anyone did want to make an offer they would need to do so through Private Messaging, E-mail...etc.

Sorry about that ... I've been sitting on this for awhile and haven't really tried to "sell" it per se. I'll make sure to post it in the proper place, and if anybody has an interest be sure NOT to post here -- PM me...
