I just drove 270 miles without my HP tune and the EGR reconnected. I noticed 1-2 mpg less @75 mph and 150 degrees higher EGTs at comparable speeds. It still has excellent stock power but noticed it labored more throughout the trip. Been runnin the SCMT for 10000 miles with zero problems except for rear tire wear.

Oh and when you go up a hill at constant rpm and mph, the only thins that increase is boost, EGT and probably fuel consumption.

Talking Milage and shifting?

Vic,

I just got my SCMT 1704-A Back from update's Today and OH MY !!!!!! Best get to looking for some tires!!! I do have one Question for you In the (Econo) tune I get a rather harsh downshift at about 18-20mph ( I do NOT have it in T/H). In Performance it has no downshift's that can be felt? This is on a 05 and has the latest tune from ford as of about 5 weeks ago. This was the first thing the Wife picked up on. Any sugjestions? I honestly could not tell the diff between the two settings other than a little smoke and the downshift So will the Hp mode get the same Milage if I can keep my foot out of it, or is the Econo really better at LIGHT load?

I think HP runs much better unloaded.

SCMT and Remote Start

OK my question is... if I have the SCMT installed on the truck will it effect my remote start or vice versa? Would the remote starter be connected to the computer on the truck. I imagine it would be, but would it effect the tuner. Would I be able to remove the tuner program and re-install it again later.

Thanks

I have remote start on my "X," and it is completely unaffected by any tune. Yours should work fine as well...

Steve

I was the one with the question about running econo or tow-safe for a hard run up the grapevine. As expected, my buddy really ran his 04 PSD really hard, going 97 mph for extended periods before the vine and then as fast as traffick would allow up the steep side of the grapevine. He had the AC on and did about 85 up the vine and no problems. Had it in tow-safe just to be sure and it ran flawless.

Just picked up my new 2006 F-250 C/C 4x4 6.0 PSD last Thursday. Read this entire post over the past couple days and WOW. Ton of info here. A friend highly recommended the 1706 tuner to me and is getting one for his Excursion. I mainly drive in town and routinely tow light work trailers during the week and the boat (about 7500-8000lbs) on the weekend. Since the truck will be my daily driver, I am most intereted in the economy mode. My question is, do I need to wait before buyign and installing the programming, or am I good to go right out of the gate. Truck has about 165 miles on it as I type. Thanks for all the great info!

Install it on a brand new truck if you like.

I was testing trucks with anywhere from 5 to 40,000+ miles on the odometer.

Be sure to follow the factory recommended break-in procedure.

Don't baby it, but don't kill it.
My recommendation is to drive it "healthy" like you plan to drive it daily, changing speeds (particularly engine speeds) frequently to create even wear patterns.

tow vs economy vs performance

I just purchased SCT Xcalibrator 2 for 2005 PSD 4x4 auto. I get better MPG in performance mode as long as I don't get to pedal happy . In the economy mode I feel as though I am getting less MPG than stock. I do use the tow mode on any of my loads that weigh over 10,000 lbs. So far biggest load has been about 17,000 lbs and I really like it. FWIW I think the intergrated tow command is better than sex! This is the safest I have ever been with a trailer attached.

I didn't want to hijack the thread but.....
Steve, what brand of remote start do you have? Do you like it? Would you get a different one next time?

Anyone else with comments about remote starts???

Thanks for your input,
Howard

1704A fits 2005
The 1704 does not (03-04 only)
1706 fits 2006

Any 1704 can be updated to a 1704-A/1706
