Vic, I second this sentiment 100%!! If you would be kind enough to pass it on to the "powers that be," we'd all appreciate it. USB upgradeability was the single feature I REALLY hated giving up when I decided on the 1704 and I'd gladly pay for an upgrade if Superchips offers a reasonable exchange/upgrade deal, especially since mine is less than six months old and in "mint" condition.
Regards,
Steve
It's too early to tell what they are gonna do, but naturally, it isn't my side of the court.
If I ran 37" tires and I put it on the highest level, would I have to worry about anything?

Remember, if you are running a stock gear, you should change it to compensate for the larger tires, or you will be driving under excessive LOAD, whether your truck is stock or tuned.
Vic, is absolutey correct on this. I ran 35" tires on the HP level not much problem you could get it hot though. So to compensate for my tires I went from a 3.73 to 4.30 gear ratio. I love it. For a 37" tire I would probally go to a 4.56 gear.
As with any tuner or fuel box no matter what you use I would reccommend installing guages first. If you drive by the guages then you don't have to worry about anything.
Hi FTE members! I'm a newby and not real sure about computers, I still use two fingers to type. Anyway does anyone have suggesttions on an "A" pillar mount for gauges? Where is the best place to purchase??? I have an 04 F250 PSD,CC,SWB,FX4. Someday I'm hoping the little woman will let me spring for some HP goodies but right now I'm just looking for the little things
I want to put gauges in later too. Not sure which ones I should put in.. EGT's, Engine Temp, what else??? As far as regearing, I called 4Wheel Parts today and they said that they do not recommend regearing. Says that I will hear too much whining noise. Do you have this? Also I was told to go with 4.88's. That seems alittle too low to me. Thanks for all the info, I am new to a desiel.

The big three are Boost, EGT (Pyrometer) and Trans Temp,
Boost should be a 50 PSI gauge (no less than 40).
I use 2000 deg F Autometer Pyrometers.
Go to www.autometer.com for a wide selection
(No, I don't work for autometer =o)
Reliable gauges that look good and aren't insanely expensive (most of the vendors you use can get Autometer for a fair price)
You should be ok with 4.88's on 38's, but maybe consider a 5.14.
Would the HP tune be acceptable w/ 40+" tires and 8"+ lifts? I would use the correct gears, but probably 10% lower to get to a 4.10 equiv.
I know the SCMT says "no towing over 6K" but what about load on the vehicle itself. The larger wheels and tires will may add 300 lbs of rotating mass which can have the effect of 4000 static lbs in the bed. I don't even know how much the aerodynamic drag would would increase load.
I like the way HP runs and haven't tried Tow Safe yet. Would it need to be detuned?

Tow safe: No problem whatsoever.
Econ: I recommend gauges, though EGT will stay low regardless
Performance: Still no problem, but I strongly recommend gauges.
Remember, you have total control over EGT with your foot and gear selection.
Gauges help you find those "happy" zones.
With 40" tires Definitely make sure your overall *effective* gearing is 4.10ish, maybe even 4.30 (which may mean you need more than 5.14 gears). This will give you better acceleration, mileage (though probably not better than stock due to all the rotating mass, hah), reduced trans load (and wear), and the truck will be more drivable/fun.
I was only thinking of 37" BFG's, which is 36.4"s overall. Could I get away with 4.56's or would the 4.88's be better? Also I ordered my Superchip for my 05 SD and I notice that there is only a 2HP difference between economy and performance. Why is that?

You're right, did not realize that. Cant wait to get mine, should be here on Monday. As for gauges, I cant seem to find anybody who makes them for the A-pillar of a 2005. I dont think the ones for above the mirror will work for me because I have a moon roof and the buttons are there.
Thanks for all your help and info, I know all my questions should be towards the Superchip in this thread.
As stated above gears don't whine unless installed improperly or extremely worn. Even if low gears normally whined you most likely wouldn't hear them over whatever tire you are compensating for. LOL.
1600 degree should be plenty for everybody, except PSD 60L fx4.
The highest I have ever seen mine was 1367F and that was with 3.73's 35" tires and pulling a 14,000 pound gooseneck.
