Looking at the output voltage for pin 1 on the radio harness connector with ignition on, then ignition and lights on and see if there is any difference. I understand if you don't have the time to check though, just a curiosity thing at this point.
Link to wiring diagrams and connectors. If this doesn't help, let me know.

Ford Trucks for Ford Truck Enthusiasts
I don't know if the dimensions are slightly different to the S6 & regular S8, but I've trimmed the top & bottom so that the Atoto slips in nicely & the bezel on it sits tight against the opening. This just leaves a small gap either side which can be filled by using the side brackets from the Metra kit, cut down accordingly & glued in place. The brackets that came with the Atoto will retain the unit in place, fastened to the sides of the unit with the angled section tight against the back of the dash bezel. I'm not 100% decided on this method of locating it, but I would have to trim another couple of millimetres (1/16" for those reading in imperial....) in order to fit the unit in the dash first, then fit the bezel over it.
I was going to make a start on the wiring but forgot to take my cheap reading glasses, wearing varifocals for general use is great, but not so great when doing close up stuff....
@Sous I did get to check the voltages as you requested.
After turning the ignition on, waiting for the compressor for the rear air to finish cycling, waiting for the glow plugs to turn off I got the following.
Pin 1, permanent live the voltage was 12.7v which dropped to 12.5v with the parking lights turned on.
Pin 2 switched live was identical within 0.02v
I then repeated with the engine running & the starting voltage rose to 13.85 @ idle, again dropping by 0.15- 0.2v when the lights were turned on.
This is pretty much what I would expect. Is this what you were hoping for?
I now need to remove the door panels and double check wiring colours for the speakers as I only want to do this once & the colours on my truck don't match either the wiring schematic from the FSM, or the chart you linked above.
I did realise that the chart is for the Metra replacement connector which may or may not match the original wiring. I'm pretty confident that the pin location will be correct, but for the sake of pulling the door panels, I'd rather be sure.
I might leave it until the new mirrors arrive, I'm fitting later style with side markers & turn signal repeaters (it's a UK requirement to have turn signal repeaters that can be seen from a specific viewing angle, the alternative being to add repeaters to the sides of the front fenders) & no point doing the same job twice....
I also believe you being sure is a clear path to success. This is truly a unicorn vehicle and every effort should be taken in order to ensure it remains 100% and top notch.
As for the mirrors, you going with the 2008 style or the 2017 style? If I cannot get my 2008 Ebay mirrors to tighten up, I will be looking for the 2017 version in the near future.
I wasn't aware that the '17 up mirrors were available for our trucks.....I think that the '08s will be a vast improvement anyway.
The HD DVR app has a "format card" function in the settings, similar to other devices like you mentioned.
I am hopeful this is/was his issue..
