Thanks Sous. So you have an OBDLink adapter connected to your "Fast Charge" port? The S8 Premium Gen2 doesn't have "Fast Charge", but I'd think the Phone Link port would be the same, once FC is turned off. I'll try this again, either today or this weekend.

I currently do not, but I believe it will work as it did when I was testing and figuring out how to connect everything I wanted.
I've been using an OBD Link EX wired USB adapter with my 6.0 and Android head for over a year. Works very well. Now the head has died, just bought an Atoto Gen2, hope to install it this week.

Hey Bill (@Bigger Hammer ), did you ever get your S8 Gen2 installed? Which one do you have, and how do you have your OBDLink connected to it?
Mark (@ScaldedDog) I had to step away for a bit between a vacation and other priorities, hoping to get back to it soon.
I have a 10.1" S8 Gen 2 Ultra Plus.
The USB OBDLINK EX worked faultlessly for almost 2 years with an off brand Chines head unit, and appeared to be working ok early in the process of installing the ATOTO unit, but it seems to have stopped working with Torque Pro recently. It is communicating properly with the OBDLINK app, so I still need to work on that. Just now seeing the posts above, so some of that may help me too.
The OBDLINK EX was used with my old head, connected directly to a USB port. It hasn't worked with my Atoto unit without an OTG (On The Go) adapter so far, And delays in getting some of that from Amazon also slowed me down by a couple weeks. I would be very interested to hear about experience others have had with OTG adapters, whether or not they were needed, which ones used, etc.
Other than problems with the Torque Pro app it seems pretty impressive. I have spent some time working on getting the Android Assistant volume loud enough to hear, doesn't seem entirely intuitive at this point, and have read a lot of complaints about this, but think I'm getting close.
Jeff (@BWST ), I have some odd, but good, news. The net is that connecting the OBDLink to the storage port, and the dash cam to the phone link port, seems to work, after a while. Here's the story...
I connected the OBDLink to the phone link port yesterday and it connected, as it did before, but the gauges would hang every few seconds, just like last time. After running for a couple of minutes, both the dashboard interface and the Forescan top toolbar were hung, and stayed hung for the entire drive. The left menu worked, but I couldn't change anything. So, I swapped the OBDLink back to the storage port in the gym parking lot and, just to see what would happen, hooked the dashcam up to the phone link port. The OBDlink connected correctly (after a few tries, which seems common, but I don't know why). The dashcam, of course, would not connect. It would power the camera, as I could see the red light blinking, but the interface hung without showing the current GPS coordinates and speed, which is what happens when the camera and radio aren't communicating.
After working on my boost issue (from my "down on power Excursion" thread) today, I needed to use the truck to water some trees, which involved multiple starts and key cycles. After the first couple, I started to consistently get an "External storage devices is being installed" message at the top of the screen whenever the radio powered up, and the dashcam started to work fine. It worked fine on every start the rest of the day. What I think is happening is the radio is recognizing the dash cam as a storage device, and configuring the phone link USB port appropriately. Why did it not do that the first several times? I have no idea, but it seems like any connection made to these USB ports takes a few tries to work.
I'll post back up if anything changes, but right now I'm happy to have a working OBDLink adapter and dashcam. I hope it works for you, too.
The OBDLink EX works great as well if you can find that on closeout or something. That is what I use without fault, delays or issues. I would say that a 90° adapter off the OBDII port is a good idea since the heating vent points right toward the OBDII scan tool, as SSJ showed us earlier in this thread.
I got the 90° adapter idea from Jeff (BWST) anyway, just a refresh of the idea that is only a few bucks and makes for a clean install.
EDIT: Disregard my mention of the EX, I made a mistake. I use the USB OBDLink SX. Thank you to the FTE'r that sent me a text to double check.

If I didn't mention it before, and if it matters, I'm using the EX with a 90* adapter/cable.
I used the front facing USB to transfer data (images, video, FSL logs, etc) to or from the ATOTO head unit.
I am often very different than others though, so there is that. Select a product or model that you will be happy with.
At least the one on Amazon anyway, it says the one with the front facing USB has a 10 inch screen vs the other having a 7 inch screen. Unless there's another option besides those couple that are on Amazon. The 10 inch screen would prob cover the AC controls I would think.
ATOTO A6 2DIN Android Car Navigation Stereo with Dual Bluetooth & 2A Charge - A6Y1021PR 2GB+32GB 10.1in IPS Display Car Entertainment Multimedia Radio,WiFi/BT Tethering Internet,Support 256G SD
Tristan, I don't see the one I bought (A6Y2721PRB) listed any longer, but the A6Y2721PRB-G is the same head unit, with a "gesture" control feature. I bought my head unit for $200 when it went on sale last November for a Black Friday sale.
There are many, many options out there that are branded other than ATOTO as well. I went ATOTO because I thought I was going to use the dual bluetooth receivers, but I ended up going with a USB adapter for the OBDII port instead.
I couldn't find the one you showed on Amazon. Could you link it by any chance?
I thought the one I was getting had more than one USB port on the back but it only has one
The one Sous has has been out of stock for a while, who knows when or if they will get more.
Actually it has 3 on the back. One is a physical USB port directly on the back of the machine. The other two plug into a header right next to the USB port and have probably about a 6" lead coming off the back of the unit.
If the three turn out to not be enough I will probably try adding a powered USB hub as well. I've seen people claim success with that on the Atoto Facebook group.
Anxiously waiting to see how your Atoto install goes. On my Hot Shot rig I have 2 USB inputs that comes out the back of my Sony. One is for USB storage like if you have a thumb drive for music and the other one connects to your phone to both charge and provide the internet connection. The phone call functions connect via bluetooth and works great. The one in the truck I drove up there is a Pioneer flip-up single DIN I originally bought for my 96. That's the one I want to replace because the Android Auto in it is not as good as in the Sony...yes, I got spoiled! Wish I already had it because I'm driving to Nashville tomorrow to deliver my litter of puppies.
As for February, the date is fine with me. Being your own boss means any day can be a holiday. Most shippers and receivers are closed on national holidays.
...The top-of-screen back, home and task list soft buttons go dead randomly - twice in two days, most recently - and ATOTO's fix is to reset the radio to factory defaults. That does get them back, but costs a good hour to reinstall apps and get them configured...
@ScaldedDog Mark - this just happened on my S8 premium tonight. No response when pressing these soft buttons.
It's like this top edge of the screen is not working. Also the radio is connected to WIFI, but the WIFI icon does not appear on the upper right anymore. And I cannot swipe down from the top edge with one finger to enter settings - have to use the gear icon on the main screen instead.
Sounds like I have to reset the radio to factory defaults? Another strike against the S8 gen 1.
