Another victory

The vent covers are a small victory but the machinist called to say my heads and dynamic balance is 100% complete! Its Friday on Mothers day weekend so maybe I will get my engine parts next week. That is exciting if I can build my motor soon!!

Update! Got all the machinist work back and I am excited! All new and ready to rumble!

All staimless oversized valves
Hardened seats
screw in studs
all new valve guides
Teflon stem seals
hardened keepers
cam matched double springs
spring perches machined to correct height

One sad note...
Waiting on my new cam! The one I want uses Winsor firing order and he accidentally ordered the standard 302 firing order.

0.065 between the valves and intake is flush with the combustion chamber. They look maximized! 58cc chambers should yield 11:1

Wheel cleanup on street set

The wheels need cleaned up with new paint. Opinions on black center vs plain white?

Original minus rusting wheel hubs

Stainless added to original

Black center and stainless

No matter what I do they need paint! Also considered blue center to match truck color.

After I save up for a while offroad 33’s look better in the wheelwell but they cost more than a mortgage payment!

black really dresses them up. Color match would probably look good too.

I like the black. Color match can be a little too pretty in my opinion. All black might be nice.

I agree! Too indistinct and sort of a cop out. Nothing against those who color match, but my build needs independence and strength! Not to mention fiscally conservative...

So if the truck is a manly color like charcoal grey or dark blue, color match ok. If not you nay get beat up at gas station. I do like the black center. It changes the look completely of the generic white rims. I had same rims on a jeep when I wanted oversized tires. Didn't want to spend a fortune. Also parked jeep in remote desert areas while hiking hills and didn't want to tempt anyone.

They really are nice. The head surface looks almost velvety. I have a 302 block, heads and crank at the machine shop right now. been there for a week. The guy is good so he is swamped. Buy anyway, I will be fondling it a bit when I get it back. lol

I welded up 8 holes in the tailgate. Why would anyone drill 8 holes in these truck gates??

two sets of four holes. Anyone know of period specific brackets that were used on the tailgate of these trucks?!?

It looks like I will be welding up the passengers step for similar swiss cheese. Not rust, drilled 3/8-1/2” holes!!!

I’ve leaned welding holes is hard because of my lack of patience. Of course I burned through on half of them! More practice to come. Both bolts holding the hinge on broke instead of coming loose... same thing I feel will happen on the fender bolts but limited access (PITA). Who can give me pointers so its easier?!?

The fender to cab is pretty easy. Lots of PB Blaster rust penetrant first. Those six nuts, two radiator support bolts, and the inner fender to firewall straps, and two nuts on fenders and front clip comes off as a unit. Easier to access all those bolts holding fenders, grille, valance, radiator support off truck.
