Im not building mine to be a trailer queen either. I figure if you cant use it then its a museum piece... and we only need a few of those. Mine will haul, tow, and participate in all normal truck activities. I figure it provided those tasks the last 60 years, it will be fine to carry on! I can always decide restore it in the event of wanting to. I call my project a repair and refresh not restore.

Exactly, why have something you can't use and worry if someone is going to touch it!
Great point. It will likely outlast me. Makes me smile thinking of the heated negotiations my kids may have over who gets it after Im gone...
I do have a sadistic side occasionally!
made the flex line that connects tank hardline to the frame hardline. LMC has it for $12 but Napa doesn’t list a replacement. Will likely add this item to next LMC order, but for now its custom with fittings and standard fuel tube for $8.
fuel lines cleared
tank reinstalled
new float installed
fuel gage reverified
If you want to upgrade the screws that hold the fuel sender unit on the tank they are 10-32 and I prefer allen head to eliminate slip/strip.

Tank after reinstall Bad flex line from tank hardline to frame hardline. Its 9” long Alignment shot Custom flex repair Had to make the gasket, ordered wrong one from DC Allen 10-32 bolts upgrade from those flatheads that were mostly stripped Empty is on E not below
I put an extra little filter right where your flex repair is. I had cleaned the tank fairly decent but that first filter ended up catching a lot of junk. Rubber on either side of it so I could isolate with vise grips and a rag.
Hi, Love the build and the idea of using the bed-liner paint behind and under the fuel tank. What is the purpose of those pads that are connected to the fuel tank straps? Do they keep your seat from touching the tank? Is it a stock bench seat?

Thanks.

The rubber pads are between the straps and tank to prevent the straps wearing through tank.

Thanks for the compliments, Yes Im keeping the bench seat.
JohnNewb is correct about the rubber pads. They keep the gas tank from metal to metal contact. Nobody wants a fuel leak in the cab!
Is that a holder for a rifle of your choice on top? First time I have seen that.
Observant, I think it holds a rifle or fishing pole. A previous owner must have put the mounts in and I will retain them. There is a rubber pad on passengers side that looks like it prevents scratches on a long gun stock. A hunters rig is my guess. My dad always used to put them between the door and seat muzzle forward but they are in the way to get out and pee. LOL
Thanks for the info. What I was looking at was the device to hold the rifle or fishing rod. Was not sure what its purpose was but now I know. Its a good idea.
Excellent thread & great pictures! Wish I was this disciplined when I'm working on mine, but once I get motivated to go do something, seems I'm too impatient to pause to document it.

Using my smartphone simplifies it. Uploading the pics directly from my phone to the thread and writing comments. There are times my hands are too nasty so you get a final pic only.
