This is working well, and not quite a Sanford & Son appearance. It's endured 40 mph gusts, heavy rain and several snowfalls. With the floor kero heaters on, I typically work in there at 65-75 degrees. And the homeowners assoc. hasn't come knocking on my door, yet.

I don't have a homeowners association, but I've been nervous about how long my truck hasn't moved in the driveway.

Removed the tape from the block and started some final cleaning before installing gaskets, seals and heads. And today I fully rotated the cam for a good look see before I drop the lifters back in. Didn't see anything of concern.

Heads ready for installation.

Lifters will be bled down and cleaned before dropping them in the holes.

With all the issues with lifters having the needle bearings failure.
Why not just go with a new set?

Roller Lifters

Always wondered what a hydraulic lifter looked like inside.

I don't know.
No.
A fella's gotta stop somewhere.

At the rate I drive this truck, I may not get to 100k by the time I have to forfeit my license.

But the sad truth is these have been parked for quite some time.

You just HAD to sneak in that partial shot of a GT350. You know how I feel about the '65 & '66 Shelbys. That playin' mean Jack, LOL!

Hey no fear-mongering. 😁
Who's to say a new set won't fail. He has less than 70k on them. Think about how many head jobs were done out there without lifters being touched. Lifter failure isn't as common. I stopped down at my old shop a few weeks ago and asked if any failures out of the fleet of 03, 04, 05 & 07s & not one lifter failure. But those trucks are well maintained with services whether it needs it or not.
Like I said from the start, I'd be more afraid of a new one failing over a slightly used one. But that's me and I don't always think like everyone else sometimes.

These two were at the Atlantic City car auction this past Saturday. The 67 asking price was $129,500 & 68 was only $89.5k. They were still there when I left.

That was posted about a year ago. There’s another floating around somewhere showing the motor for the white one on a stand. I ran out of room for where to put the parts. The lighter parts on the fiberglass hood. This motor has taken sooooo long.

rewrapped engine harness on the roof. You don’t want to see the interior. Shelby’s make good shelves.

I wouldn’t worry about the lifters. The failure rate is not that high, it just catistrophic. And I’m more of a believer the issue is the cam more then the lifter after doing the literature search. I’m flipping lifters because of a new cam and the debris that went through the oil. The internals of these lifters are matched, do not interchange.

Lifter Replacement

Some more owner opinions regarding not replacing these lifters.

I mentioned the low mileage of my truck.
I've always changed the oil at 5k intervals, and I've used oil additives often.
The truck has been driven at a modest level of exertion, some of you have politely chastised me for that.
I inspected every cam lobe today, and dismantled and inspected every lifter today. The children appear to be playing well together, and likely will for quite a while.

I may start a new thread on installing a new cam. I’m seriously thinking about it since I’m going in deep and doing lifters too. Then I’ll be wondering why not a full rebuild...ahhhhhhhhhhh!!!
