PREVAILING TORQUE. The torque required to run a nut down a thread on certain types of nuts
designed to resist vibration loosening. The resistance can be provided by a plastic insert or a
noncircular head. PREVAILING TORQUENUT. A type of lock nut which has a prevailing torque
to assist in preventing self loosening.
The spool valves are self locking metal nuts. Also each time a PREVAILING TORQUENUT is
used the value will change so to wear of the locking element.

Mythought on how to return the torque of the bolt. The bolt will have a certain
amount of resistance to being turned once it torqued and can be measured before
disassembly. Returning the fastener to that value should give nearly the same as
the original install torque.
One issue with the spool valves is you really need the manufacture's specifications to do things correctly.
You can't use the torque needed to remove a fastener as the install torque.
Anytime we've (I) had to deal with a prevailing torque issue, and reused the fastener, we instead went to rotation rather then torque if you are dealing with the exact same parts. With any fastener its about the stretch of the fastener, if the torque values are FUBAR, then its degrees of rotation.
No saying it's right, its just how were handled it.
This one is a Capri 31104, 365 ft-lbs. Check out the name of the Inspector on the calibration sheet. I also bought a 1/4" drive Tekton 20-200 in-lbs for use on the spool valve nut, but after the wrench arrived I discovered the spool valve nut is tightened to 5 in-lbs. So then I bought another 1/4" drive beam-type torque wrench, this one rated 0-80 in-lbs.
I'm getting nearer to starting a Go Fund Me page, this project is eating some cash. I'm still probably gonna snag a new turbo, most likely an OE. Those custom turbos costing twice an OE is just hard to swallow.
Nice torque wrench. I didn't know Capri made them. My big torque wrench is a Proto 1/2" drive 50 to 250 ft-lb. Not quite as long at 27"+, but I think it would serve.
Where have you looked for turbos? I just checked Autonation Ford and they show remanufactured turbos (using my 2006 VIN in the search) for $715. Fordpartsgiant has them for about $950 and Ford shows them for $1083. All three with a $250 core charge. Looking over on KC Turbos, they sell upgrade and rebuild kits. Not sure those kits include everything you need, but perhaps worth considering instead of full replacement.

Those are o-ringed heads. From what I understand fire rings and o-rings are different. Fire rings are inside the gasket and o-rings are where they will sandwich the gasket and head. This is coming from Jared at Kill Devil Diesel.
