That's disappointing to read.

I used Evapo-Rust on the manifolds followed with a brass wire brush and they stayed rust free until I painted them with Rustoleum 2,000F. I'd say wait a year but with my progress, I'd give it two.

My history indicated chemically rustproofing works better then blasting (mechanical) to remove the chemical process of oxidation. If you go the vinegar route it just flash rusts.

I was looking at reviews (on Amazon) for Rustoleum recently and they were mixed results, but one never knows how well they executed the prep and cure process. I figured a wire wheel or cup brush would be the easiest way to knock off the heavy rust but your comment makes me think following up with Evap-Rust would be a good idea. I have a gallon jug of it bought years ago.

ALL of the paints are a crap shoot at these elevated temps. I have no expectations for this to do well.

About 4 decades ago I had one exhaust paint that did well on motorcycles that blued pipes but it's no longer offered.

You're welcome and there's more to come. UCF Machine Shop called and my rebuilt heads are ready for pick up. I'm going to get them Monday morning and I'll post a few photos Monday evening.

I found a new use for the engine hoist today.

Given other items checked out, what's the upper miles of the 6.0 that we should just stay clear off? I read somewhere 270k miles was the designed average major rebuilt. However, I am looking for responses from experiences here.

Glad to see you're painting them too. Best way to keep oxidation off the aluminum. I've got a tree. Lungs don't like painting inside.

I think I’ll have my powdercoat guy do the front and rear covers, that stuff is tough with the clear on top.

For high temp coatings I was thinking of using these guys for the manifolds when it comes time to take it apart. I would also be doing the outer surfaces
of the turbine side of the turbo with the heat reflective coating.

EDIT: They are not cheep.

HTM101, Looking good! When you get those heads can you post a pic of the head surface so we can see the placement of the ring. KDD claims they figured out the specific placement of the ring so I'd like to compare. Appreciate it.
