havent gotten much done on the bike since i been working on putting new flooring down in my room.. so far my office is done and about 3 ft into my room from the wall and down the hall way..
but today i cleaned up the bolts i plan to reuse on the engine and painted so i can start reassembling that when they dry... and attempted to get the caliper apart.. pads stuck in the housing as is the piston... ive heated the thing several times soaked it in the penetrate (which its been soaking in that stuff for like a month... im thinking im just going to end up having to buy a new caliper to replace it... and probably a new master cyl..
Dustin, no other way to know you did the repair right than load it up with brick LOL.
I have been driving the truck all week to work about 30+ miles each way.
I take the high way 1am to Apex and Ten Ten / 50 back home to McGee's Cross Roads.
Been running great and the steering gets better as it loosens up.
After the holidays I think I will look for a parts truck I can get a ZF5 5sp parts from and maybe the front suspension as I have a plan LOL

Are you looking for the ball joint front suspension?
Got the pad out of the caliper. But apparently i pulled the top of the piston out of the caliper. Now i gotta figure out how to get the other half of the piston out it seems pretty stuck too.
Shawn, can you put the caliper in the oven for a while then drop an ice cube or 2 in the piston??
right now my paint ovens buried and mum says negatory on the one inside.... could try ice cubing after heating it with the propane torch though... i was getting the WD-40 and PB blaster boiling with it...
Hey Shawn, I had a caliper piston stuck on the Chevy LUV truck I'm working on. I removed the brake bleeder fitting and threaded in a grease fitting in it's place. Then blocked off the hole for the hose, connected my grease gun, and pushed the piston out one squeeze at a time.

I am not looking that hard ATM as everything in my truck is new but think the pins are still too tight.
I would also need the beams on out with hubs and think radius arms as I am sure mine being for kingpins & cast beams will not fit stamped beams.
I was just thinking if I could find a ball joint truck (F150 with 5x5.5 wheels) with a ZF5 I would have everything I would need to convert my truck but ......
The years would be 88 to 91 for the ZF5 as they used a speedo cable and the ZF5 was hardly ever put in F150's so I found out.
So it looks like I will be looking for 2 trucks for the needed parts when the time comes. Unless someone has the parts laying around cheap LOL

If CRS doesn't sink in, Dave, I should have all the front end in NY. Except for the rotors which will fit my 79. Could bring down next trip but, that might be a while. (From an 86 F150)

I am in no rush, the front suspension is new and the pins tight so does not want to return to center like it should.
I also would like to drop it a little and DJM does not make beams for the large kingpin my truck uses. When I first started the front end rebuild DJM did not offer any drop beams for the 80"s kingpin trucks they now have for the small pins.

I win i win i win. After sitting for 5 days in PB blaster. I tried first with the grease gun to no effect. Then heated and tried again same. Tried tapping with a hammer nothing. Finally i reheated it again and stuck some ice cubes down the center of the piston while it was still hot to rapidly cool the piston and tried again with the grease gun. And SUCCESS!!!
Now i just gotta clean all the grease out of the piston bore to see what im working with.
all the tools i used to finally get the other half out...
For some reason, Shawn, my wife was upset one time when I cured the paint on some exhaust manifolds in the oven....
That is why you use the oven when she is away for the weekend
I had to bake the oil out of an alum. intake before painting and back after painting.
I was happy she was not home
