Matt, could you get me a photo of where the dipstick goes in the block before you remove it? I've never seen a good photo of it and I know it is trick to replace with the engine in the truck.
I'll get you a pic tomorrow, I have my wheelwells out so I can get a good side view..
I didnt get to take pics till after dark but here is where it is above the exhaust manafold
Here is where it is below the exhaust manifold
Assuming it goes straight into the pan from there but tomorrow if you need it I will take a pic under at the pan
I got the tranny completely unhooked today...took a lot longer than I planned. I don't have small hands so it took a lot of screw drivers and wiggling lol. I also removed the transmission mount bolts but I couldn't get the motor mounts off. My impact gun is too large to fit über the axle and the two top bolts are too close to the frame to get a wrench on. Does anyone have any advise on the motor mounts?
Lol, I should have her do it. Only problem with that is i have a foot and a half and about 100lbs on her so those bolts wont come loose unless she holds on and we both pull lol. I could also have her on a dolly and while she holds on i could pull her legs lol...maybe make her a little taller.
Lol true, if that ends up happening dont worry I'll get pictures of it. In the mean time i am going to attempt to remove those bolts this weekend and go get a hoist from harbor freight or sears which ever has them available.
Just remembered i need to drop the front drive shaft as well, i need to lock my hubs to do that because it turns and its a pain to lock them, unbolt, unlock, spin it, lock, unbolt 2-3 times lol.
So list for this weekend:
1. Remove front drive shaft
2. Unbolt motor mounts
3. Chain up motor to be removed
4. Remove motor (if i can get my hands on a hoist)
I didnt exactly get what i listed done but i worked on the transmission instead to make more room in the garage and to reduce the amount of parts i have sittin gin the bed of the truck lol.
I removed the stock trans pan only to find that most of the bolts were loose which was causing the leak. All the components still look like they are in good shape.
New PPE pan installed...this thing is huge! it carries 4 extra quarts of fluid lol and it came with a new seal and hardware.
I need to install a dipstick to cover the passenger side port because currently there is an open hole into the trans pan from the outside. that is coming but for now i am going to use that to fill it lol.
I still need a neutral saftey switch, wire harness and tail shaft for the trans i have a new tail housing but no shaft yet.
Hey guys, I just wanted to make a list of the stuff i need to do to wrap up all my work on the rear of the truck.
- Drill and mount Ex Tank
- Hose clamp fuel lines to Ex Tank

- Zip tie the Wiring for tails and trailer plug
- Mount old Rear bumper
- Paint supports
- Notch or replace frontt support to make the bed sit level
- Bolt Supports to Bed
- Bolt Bed to
- Bolt Bed to Frame
- Fill rear diff with fluid
- Lift rear of truck and do a final suspension tightening (hangers to springs bolts)
- these are tight but i want to retighten with the impact gun with the rear off the ground to make sure its good.
This all needs ot be done but is not necessary to be done to move the truck if we move this summer.
- Cut out goose neck ball hole in bed floor
- Mount rear traction bar brackets
- Cut rear fender liners for air bags
- Make/buy spacers for rear air bags
- run some air lines into the bed
- mount old tank in bed (for water injection)
I'm sure i forgot something but my goal is to get 70-90% of this done by my wedding on July 1st. the wedding is all planned and now all i have left is house hunting to do which doesn't take up much time during the week just half a day to a day of the weekends when we go looking.
