Thanks, still need to paint a few things and touch up a few areas that i couldn't see with the lighting in my parent garage. Hoping to get the frame coated in POR after the engine is out before i travel again the week after next.
I did it! So pumped me and 4 buddies got it out this afternoon!
I noticed this morning that The EGR put a dent in the cowl but that's nothing a little pair of pliers cant fix. Nothing too crazy getting it out but those engine mount bolts were a major PITA they took an hour and a half along with me under the truck and a friend on top taking turns making 1/4 turns.
So happy it is finally out of he truck definitely motivating to get everything in now. I am currently in process of ordering some POR15 to clean up and paint the rest of the frame. I will be removing the fuel lines, brake lines, and all other unused parts that i will need to discard for the swap. My plan is to drop the fender liners, clean the frame, paint the frame and then tidy up all the stuff in there. I will also make a new fuse panel mount for the engine bay while I'm at it as well.
I took these briefly before work this morning. You can see how bad the frame is, I ate so mush rust under there lol, I got most of the scale off by hand but there is still plenty to remove.
Jeremy I have not forgotten about the manifolds! I couldn't for the life of me get the exhaust bolts undone or cut the exhaust pipe with my sawzall so i need to break or cut the bolts off then i can get the manifolds off the motor. and ill get the shift lever lol.

This is the dent form the EGR, the cowl doesn't rest flat anymore but i can bend this back out of the way.
Also some other exciting news, I dropped the charger off with my body guy that did the truck to do all the body work to it. He asked me what color i wanted and i said i was thinking black and he said he wont let me do black (he will if i want) and that we need to sit down with his color book and pick something because black is too common lol.
It does, the drivers side had the fitting. That EGR was the bane of my existence tryign to get the throttle body off and then getting the motor out. Do you still want them? if not no big deal less work for me lol.
Sounds good man, I will let you know when i get them off! Probably in a few days. I want to remove the fuel lines brake lines etc. tonight or at least start to so i can get them in the track for Wednesday. I forgot to disconnect a fuel line but it was so rusty it just broke off in the engine pulling effort...didn't even hold the engine up lol.
Oh wow... whenever you get a chance. I am still tinkering with the Ranger for a while longer. Trying to iron out all the bugs of installing new larger injectors on a stock engine. Whatever suits your schedule is fine by me.
Roger that, I will let you know when i get her out.
POR is ordered and will be in by Wednesday evening so tonight i am going to tidy up the engine bay as well as remove all brake lines , fuel lines and unused hardware/hoses. I may even test fit the cummins this weekend, i need to see how the SAE 3 transmission adapter fits with the fire wall and if i need to buy a destroked adapter or Allison SAE3 bell housing next.
Wanted to start off saying i feel bad about the lack of truck work i have done over the past year, it's been a busy year for me lol between traveling for work, having a wedding and buying a house lol. But that being said now that i am settled into the new house I am going to be getting back at it! Plus getting that whole drive train out was extremely motivating!
Moving on! I just got the POR delivery notification from amazon, Tonight i am going to do the following and dont worry i am going to start taking pictures again lol.
- remove fuel lines
- remove brake lines
- pull back all engine bay wiring and accessories
- remove fender liners (had a hard time last time)
- get scale off frame and body if any with scraper
Hinging on how much of this i get done tonight-Friday this weekends plan is to do the following:
(not in order)
- POR remaining frame
- drill front traction bar bracket holes
- align rear axle (currently i think its off by one hole on the passenger side)
- Bolt in OEM crossmember (rivets removed for 08 Hangers)
- Tighten down all suspension parts in rear
- Replace front body mounts
-- the plan for this is to POR around the stock ones and then replace them two at a time and POR the area covered by the mounts on the frame and cab.
- POR U-bolts (staying silver no topcoat)
- notch firewall for hydroboost
- Mount Airdog fuel pump
That should be plenty for me to get done in the next few days lol. I will touch up all spots that i miss initially with POR do to things like hangers and what not being installed during this initial pass. When i upgrade the suspension i will pull hangers and what not to cover all areas with POR.
Also i would like to add that my goal is to pick up the charger from the body shop with the truck! that's my goal but we will see how fast they do the charger lol.
Hey guys, i got the majority of what i had listed above done but for some reason i am having issues with photobucket right now with the pictures.
Last night i received a 6.0l driver side battery tray, i needed one to mount my Destroked dual battery tray on the drivers side. They dont state that anywhere but i figured it out really quickly lol.
The tray came with two bolts which you can see in the bottom of the tray here:
These hold the dual trad to the 6.0l driver side tray and give it a sturdy mounting place.
There is a second mount that give it side to side rigidity that moutns right into the inner fender well:
I still have to unbolt everything for POR so i didnt bother mounting up the battery tray just yet but here you can see it has the same mounting position in a 5.4l as it would in a power stroke:
The tray is much more sturday and i am thinking about building a small plate that will sandwhich between the two trays and coul dserve as a mounting place for my fuse panel and wiring.
I am going to utilize the old 5.4l passenger side battery tray to make a mounting plate for my Aux fuse box and AMP steps. I will shorten my amplifier cables and run them directly off the batteries and then i can run a wire over the the fuse panel and it will really tidy up the engine bay a boat load. I am so excited! hate how cluttered engine compartments are so this really makes me feel good lol.
Before I POR the frame i and going to remove the steering box and i want to replace it with a redhead one anyway, any suggestions? its coming out this weekend.
IU love the battery tray lol. I had my steering box replaced about 5 years ago now, it works fine but currently I contact the leaf springs with my pitman arm at full left lock and i think its the steering box but I'm not sure. Granted thinking about it now the bump stops are on the knuckles not the steering box so maybe that would be a waste... well either way i need to remove it to paint behind it and there's a bolt wedged between it and the frame from my dads old plow lol.
