I have seen many old Fire Trucks, but never saw a restoration from beginning to finish. Fantastic job Keith. Your truck would fit nicely with the finest of museums.

More progress today!! We got the headliner installed in about 3 hours. We still need to make the bows. They will be made from 1" wood lattice painted flat black. More wiring accomplished. Gerald got the headlights, parking lights and tail lights connected and working.

I'm already giggling like a schoogirl each time he posts a picture, video or new historical information on the truck. My wife is beginning to think I might have a problem!

Keith the video of the kids looking at the bell is great. In addition to the inspiring work on the truck you've accomplished another major goal... hooking the next generation on old Ford trucks. Nice work! If you decide to tour the country finishing restorations on FTE members trucks please count me in!

The kids are really excited about the truck and I can't wait to really start giving them some thrills!! I asked my friend Ron, the former driver of the truck to write the foreword for the book. I was very pleased with what he sent me today. Here it is:

 When asked by the author of this book to write a prologue for it, I quickly agreed to do so.
I was very familiar with the subject of the book, the 1951 Ford F7, ID tag B46, the apparatus
of Patrol # 5 of the Chicago Fire Insurance Patrol.

I was a member of this unit and also the regular driver at one time, so I responded to many
an alarm either on the back step or behind the wheel of Patrol # 5. Car B46 had a Ford chassis,
but the body was built by Schukraft, which was a company on the northwest side of Chicago.
The author has a special interest in the Chicago Fire Patrol, due to the fact that his grandfather,
was a Captain on the Patrol. I knew his grandfather and also worked with him. He was known
as "Iron Mike" and was a good officer and a real gentleman. Keith has written a previous book on
the Patrol. I just hope whoever reads this book will appreciate the time and effort he put into it.
His books have brought back a lot of fond memories for me and are a great tribute to the hard
working men who served on the Patrols. Many of these men went on to careers on the Chicago
Fire Department.

There are very few of us "Patroleo's" left but after all, it has been well over 50 years since the
Chicago Fire Patrol went out of service. I want to thank Keith for restoring this apparatus. I know
it took a lot of patience, hard work and a lot of money too. During the restoration of B46, I met with
Keith at his home and had the good fortune of driving the rig. At that time the brakes were a little
iffy, it was a great thrill to be behind that same wheel a half a century later.

Back to work on the truck tomorrow. We will do some more wiring, remake the driver's interior door panel, work on the wood bows for the headliner, temporarily fit the fire extinguisher bracket on the rear bumper, get the hood trim installed and the lower door diamond plate trim pieces on. I am shooting to have this done by Christmas! I am getting so excited Keith. I hope ya have me on the list for the new book when it's out. And just how many books have ya wrote Bud? I would also like the one Ron just mentioned in the prologue.
