Called the plating company today and the bell mount and top nut is done. I can't wait to see it!! I will post some pics tomorrow. Going to bring my seats to the uphostery shop tomorrow ... going green LOL
Rich, I am still working on the fire truck book. I'm up to 110 pages with close to 20 thousand words written. I don't have much left to do except some pictures and minor writing on whats left of the restoration. I have a friend in the printing business who is going to give me a price when its finished. It will be much cheaper then what I posted before about using Blurb, a print-on-demand company. The only problem is that I will have to front the money first for the books. Not sure how many I should get printed. I was thinking 150-200.
Joe, that's a great idea. I will call my friend and get an estimate for the book printing. The more copies I have made drives the price per copy down. I probably should start a new thread asking those interested in a copy.
I went to the chrome shop to get the mount and was not satisfied with how it looked. It had pits, burrs and swirl marks in it. I left with it and brought it back after looking it over real good. The owner was receptive to re-doing it over after I explained that it is the show piece or hood ornament of the truck and needs to be perfect. He said he will strip it and try to remove the pits but they may get bigger when they polish it so I may have to have them filled at the metal shop. He will call me if there is an issue.
I dropped the middle bins off at the metal shop so they should be done in a few weeks. They are going to wrap them in 18 gauge metal. Basically they are twin tool boxes and held the covers in place. Here are the pics:
This is what we are looking to recreate with some minor alterations like the bins won't have a curve at the top. The front side won't have the cut outs like in the pic. It will have a curved edge at the top for safety. These bins were made by another truck builder so we really don't know how they were exactly. This set of bins weren't wood framed. We framed it to make them more sturdy. The originals were pretty flimsy.
You can count on me to buy a book. Just let me know where and when....no rush. All you got to do is raise those two boys, restore a piece of history, work for a living, jot a few thousand words down here and there, compile pictures, keep the wife happy, etc. You should be done in a week or two....LOL
