Guys, I have been looking for a set of STOP tail light lenses. I see the larger sized ones (6-7") for sale on Ebay all the time. I need a pair of 4 1/4" lenses.
Bob, I've been checking his website often and he usually only has singles which are different from each other. I just got off the phone with him.... no luck.
Do you have both of the plain lenses? If you do you could have someone laser etch the area around the STOP to form a slight recess and have the letters stand out. Then paint the etched area with black paint. I have a guy who does laser name plates for me and I'm pretty sure he could do it. He does fancy drinking classes for weddings and business promotions.
I wasn't specifically recommending the guy I work with, I am sure there are companies all over that do the same thing. Look for a place that does trophies and other times of advertising.
Picked up my headliner material today. I went with a flat black vinyl. We have quite an expanse to cover 87" x 79". Gerald plans on painting the roof lights, horns, seat bases and backs and any other misc parts tomorrow. Once the roof lights are painted we can mount them, wire them up and then install the headliner.
I seem to have misplaced most of my hood molding clips. I found this thread about them. So I guess I'll give Metro Bolt a call and order some.
In my book, I briefly give some info on the equipment carried on the truck. The extinguishers were hand made in the Chicago FD shops out of brass. They work great and are still found on the CFD trucks. You can see how they were riveted together. The clamps are not the correct type.
Keith,
Great pics! looks like some lasting memories there. Very nice.
You could take your fire extinguishers by any hydraulic shop that makes hoses and I'd bet they could crimp on a nice ferrule on that hose for next to nothing.
I ran out in the garage and measured my old STOP light, no luck, its one of the larger ones. Too bad, I would have gladly donated it to the cause.
I don't think a laser is going to help. I've done laser cutting and etching, but the only thing it would do with glass is frost the surface. If I tried to go any deeper I got differential heating that shattered the glass. The glass could be etched deeper with hydroflouric acid, but that is some VERY nasty stuff. A glass artist that does slumped glass work may be able to slump the glass into a mold. Meanwhile you might consider having STOP reverse cut in a band of black vinyl and apply it to the inside of plain red glass lenses.
