For that kind of craftsmanship it is more than fair. And yes I would do the same for your Fire Wagon. But My-goodness. And yet there has been other things done here along the same line. My hand is out and my hat off to you Keith. A job done well with love.
Yes, it still needs to be chromed. I dropped it off at the chrome shop last week. They said $180 for the mount and $45 to do the large brass nut that holds the bell to the mount. I brought the bell in with it just to get an estimate. He said if he didn't know me it would be $475, but for me $350. I am not sure what I am going to do with the bell. Most people have said to leave it as is with its original patina. But then, the rest of the truck will look brand new except the bell.
Joe, I thought about mounting the bell on my head board ... you know Honey, Honey .... ding ding...
If you want my opinion, I'd leave the bell as is. The patina on the bell will tie into the restoration. I think that it'll be a nice touch to see an original bell on a restored truck.
Ilya, thats the opinion that I hear from most people. I pretty much agree with you. Its kinda cool that there is still some of the original paint on the bell. For now its staying original.
Thanks Bobby. I gonna really try to get this done by Christmas. I am going to drop off my seats next week to have them re-covered. That will be another of the big expense items done. Then I want to order all my decals and striping so I can get the old gal lettered.
The truck would be fantastic in one of the Xmas-time light parades with Santa sitting up in the back. I can see it now, bells ringing, sirens wailing, and Santa tossing out candy to the little ones..............ho ho ho
Gerald and I have both been busy the past week and a half so no work was done. We are back out first thing tomorrow morning to put some hours in. I thought I would share some photos of the old gal when I first laid eyes on her ten years ago. Some of these pics will appear in the book. She was in pretty rough shape then. I will post tomorrows pics in the afternoon.
