Progress ... hanging sheetmetal!!
I think they did a great job. They reused the end caps and mounts. They look so much better fixed!! I am going to test fit them tomorrow and if everything works out they will be at the chrome shop Monday morning.

Dropped of the rails this morning. My camera came yesterday so I went out and took a couple of shots of the recent work. Pics are of the installed front bins and rear grab handles. Started trying to sort out the interior electrical. I need some switches and original type *****. I am going to try my local auto parts store for the push - pull switches and order the ***** from my catalogs of repro Ford suppliers. Unless someone has a suggestion where I can buy the switches. We also checked to see if the Mars & other lights were working. They all checked out OK.

Hi guys. Not much happening with the truck. Still waiting to hear from the chromers when the rails are done. I am a little disapointed that I am not further along with my project. Its been 4 months already since she has been painted. I am moving along as fast as my budget takes me.
I have been working on 2 books. I just finished one on my uncles service in WWII. I sat down with him in 2004 and audio taped his war experiences. I never listened to the tape and forgot what was said until I listened to it a few months after his death in April. I put together a book for the family and I will present it to everyone in Chicago next month. If anyone wants to check it out, please email me at chicagofyrpatrol@bellsouth.net and I will send you an invitation to view it. (I am not asking anyone to buy it)
I will be using the same printing company to do the book on my grandfathers truck and the restoration so I kinda of tested the waters for my other book. I am trying to come up with a book cover photo. The only one I have of my grandfather standing next to a truck is not the one I am restoring. I really want to use it but people who know Fords will know its not the same truck. My other option is to photoshop my grandfather into the picture of the 51(not sure how thats going to look). I am looking for some opinions here. What do you guys think?? Here are the two pics:

You know, if you just photoshopped your grandfather into the picture with the 51, no one would have known.
Maybe you should ask Bob Jones (bobj49f2) to manipulate the picture. He's our resident photoshop expert. There are also a few others.

Personally, I think that the top photo would do just fine. Will the photo be on the dust jacket? Usually there is a "Cover photo:" note under the blurb. You can note here that the truck in the photo is not the restored truck. I don't think it would be right to use a photoshopped picture without disclosing it to the reader.
BTW, I love the red & green headlights or filters. If your truck had them, I hope you still have them to reinstall. Definitely Santa-approved for Christmas parades!
