Thanks for your interest in my other book. And thanks Bobby, for your endorsement of my Fire Patrol book. If it wasn't for that book, I never would of been able to acquire my grandfathers truck.
Rich, the book on the truck will be my 3rd. I have another 3 in the works. One of these is on the fire that my grandfather lost 2 of his men and 8 Chicago firefighters lost their lives. I am still working out the details on where I am going to have it printed. I will definitely let everyone following this thread, the details of the book when its ready. Shortly after the truck is finished, the book will be done as I have been writing as the restoration has been progressing.
Rich, here is the link to my website about the book. There is a 5 min video on the site when I appeared on WGN promoting my book.
Didn't get as much work done as I thought we would but we still made some progress. We got the vent window and trim installed, the drivers interior door panel ready for primer. You can see how far we somehow were off for the window regulator. The other side has the same measurements as our first hole so I don't know how we were off so much. I thought I was going to get the hood trim pieces installed but the molding clips I bought we the wrong size. I did get the fire extinguished bracket in the correct place and drilled the holes. I still need to prep the bracket for painting. And lastly, we got one lower door trim piece installed. Almost forgot we made the rear bench seat back.
Ilya, I was a little worried about the drill slipping but everything worked out good!! I forgot to mention I bought the wood for my roof bows. I am going to soak them in my pool for 2 days set them in place in the truck and let them dry.
Hey Keith the fire extinguisher holder could double as a porta-potty thing. Put a BIG hole under the extinguisher and have a flip over toilet seat for when ya remove the extinguisher. It could work for the long drives to car shows.
The bell fabricator sent me these pics today. You can see how percise he was. I told him I wanted him to make the bell sit slightly forward in the mount as you can see with his measurements on the table. I just thought I would share the photos. The man has talent!!
Wow! That is a forgotten art skill. He really had to weld, fill, grind and polish the two rods together, not to mention the time spent on building the jig and template.
