Hi Guys
I'm in Chicago on vacation when I did a google search for vintage Illinois fire apparatus. Here is what I found. It looks like the Lombard fire department gave the truck to the Lombard Jaycees. I was able to talk to the photographer who took the picture in the late 70's. It is a copyrighted photo and I was given permission to use it in the book. Check out the banner on the side (clown unit) and of course the clowns!!!!
I think it's so neat that you have the history on this truck and have been able to find more.
I know most everyone here wishes they could find the history on their trucks. I tried to find out a little history on my F-2 but there's not much to go on. I know my dad bought if from a cabinet maker across the street from Mitchell International Air Port in Milwaukee in 1969. I tried to find the house that I remember going to with my dad but the area has change so much in the 40+ years nothing looked familiar. My dad died more than 20 years ago, man,it doesn't seem that long, so I can't get any information from him.
Thanks for asking about the book. I have 80 pages done so far. I wil let everybody know when it is done which will be as soon as the truck is completed.
Ok Rich, got it thanks. Went out and took some pics of Gerald's work while I was away. He built the drivers and rear seat bases. I bought some 3/4" plywood with oak veneer for the rear bench seat. The drivers seat base was made from solid oak. The officers seat was in perfect condition. We are going to paint everything gloss black. I plan on adding some seat belts for the kids. Also need my seats recovered but don't have the $ for that right now. Gerald put on the Mars light covers. Next week we could get some more work done.
Great work Keith. I make cabinets and Tables as a hobbie. Mostly Red and Yellow ceder. I love to work with wood. it's soft wood but smells so good and easy to work with.
