Joe, I like blue too. That must of been one pretty hog!!
One more thing about the badges ... they were thrown in the trash when they moved the commissioner to his new office and the widows husband took them out and kept them all these years until his death. I should have them this week!!
Now back to the truck. I ordered some good quality UV varnish and wood sealer. Yesterday morning I went out and lightly re-sanded, cleaned and applied the wood sealer. This morning I re-sanded the sealer and applied the first of many coats of varnish. Here are some pics:
That got me to snicker. Good one Bud. Sure glad you got the badges. That is so nice for you. Coating the wood is about all the major stuff you have left ain't it? That and the trim? Just about time for the first rolling video. I am so excited.
Still so much to do.
1. Have my dash clusters restored and then installed
2. Buy switches and ***** and finish the wiring
3. Fabricate and install the headliner and lower kick panels
4. Fabricate drivers and rear bench seat and paint them.
5. Have the seats recovered.
6. Install the seats & gas tank
7. Finish varnishing the bed.
8. Rechrome and install the bed rails.
9. Install the inside bed sheet metal
10. Fabricate the middle bed bins and install all bins + rear grab handles.
11. Install tail lights.
12. Install rear door and grab handles.
13. Have bell mount fabricated, chromed & install.
14. Install bumper lights.
15. Install all chrome trim.
16. Paint horns and install hood trim and interior parts - hang hood.
17. Remove brake booster, rebuilt and reinstall, bleed brakes.
18. Get the clutch unstuck.
All this off the top of my head .... still more that I cant think of!!
Mail lady just delivered my grandfathers badges ...WOOHOO!!
I just finished watching the auction's close on the other badges and I am shocked at some of the closing prices.
The firefighter C of P badge set sold for $1234
The retired Fire Patrol Badge went for $1526 and the deceased mans family was bidding on it and was outbid. Who would want another mans retirement badge that bad that they would pay that amount of money?
The family was able to get the other set of badges that belonged to the retired/deceased member for $800.
I called the consignor to see if she could take some better pictures than the ones posted on ebay so I can send them to the family. She also agreed to give the retirement badge buyer the Phone # of the family if he ever decided to sell the badge so they could have the first shot at it.

This proves it literally that one's man trash is another man's treasure. That's what I keep telling my wife whenever I bring more stuff home.

Those prices are crazy, but I'm guessing that these badges are pretty rare. You got a great deal judging by the final bid price for each badge. Maybe a retirement badge is a "holy grail" to a collector??? I really hoped that the family would have been able to purchase both badges. That's really sad that they weren't.
The last retirement badge went for $600. I still can't figure why that other one went for that much money unless the family members were unknowingly bidding against each other.
The second coat went on the bed this afternoon. The directions say to put at least 4 coats but I might do another 2.
Keith I got busy again at work and have been away from the computer for a few days... WOW!!!...that will teach me not to neglect checking FTE for even one day. Congrats for getting the badges. Your pride in family is inspiring. My Grandfather was a farmer in Central IL. We still have his first new tractor that has sat at the farm for year. Just starting to work on it nowl I can't wait to put it back in the field that it worked in so long ago. Sorry for the hijack but like I said this is inspiring!
The wood deck reminds me of one of the old games you'd see in the local taverns... the one with sawdust on it where you slid the metal pieces and tried to knock the other guy off... kinda like shuffleboard... not sure of the name.
I agree on shooting video of the first start/drive etc. You've got to take all of us along on the maiden voyage!
Man Keith, You have come along way since I started watching your build thread.
You were just getting the sheetmetal on the sides...
Super Cool and where do you find the time and money?
Really awesome!
Way more than the build, the story behind it is just as good!
Rob - so cool that you have your grandfathers tractor. I love to see a picture of it. Why don't you post one here. Its so true about the bed looking like one of those tavern games. I haven't seen one of those it a while. I still can't believe I got the badges.
I went out and put the 3rd coat of varnish down today. Its looking good.
I will definitely shoot a video of the maiden voyage.
Jeff - I have come along way but I was hoping to have it done by now. Its been almost 3 months now since she was painted. The money tree dropped all it leaves so my cash flow is severely depleted. LOL... The dam rails are really holding me up so I decided once the floor is done to go ahead and temporarily put the rear sheet metal and bins in place so see what it is going to look like. I really hate covering up all that beautiful wood but that's the way it was built.
