In retrospect, I am glad - the noise the thing makes when going through a tunnel can make me laugh out loud. (it's straight piped from the turbo back...) I have been driving it more frequently than I expected, so the improved milage is a bonus, I have been able to get oil for super cheap, so one of the biggest expenses has disappeared... and whenever I pull into a parking lot the attendants of Latino descent typically start pulling out wads of cash to purchase it.

The truck has been super reliable, and apart from the typical Super Duty foibles (ball Joints needed replacing, small electrical issues) its been perfect.
Not that long... but thats not really the point, I don't think many people that purchase such a tune are looking to traverse the Rockies with a 5'er with it installed.
I, for the most part, don't see the ability to get an exorbitant amount of hp to be as appealing when choosing a vehicle (probably why I wanted a 5.4 ), but others do...

-about the noise, i would undoubtedly get better mileage if i could control the urge to make a lil noise next to walls etc. and my pass window motor would see less abuse. . .

-about the motors melting down with high power, that just isnt always the case. i'd say most guys run their stock turbos with chips etc, past their map and run them hot (why not). but, guys that actually do heavy towing arent doing that. theyre matching turbos to their power level so they take high egt's out of the equation for potential breakage problems. granted, its not a cheap way to go, but ya gotta pay to play. everyone that i know who tows for a living/regularly, also does all their own wrenchin/modding (a penny saved is a penny earned). with that bein said, we build budget setups for very modest prices to keep things in check and worry-free.

See you don't understand or doing it on purpose again.
With diesel when I don't see the fuel price I like >>> I keep on driving. My car makes 70 miles on reserve the F450 about 50 with the light on. Obviously less if I haul 30,000 lb.

What can't YOU understand?

You can call people liars because they see a sign with a price on it that doesn't agree with the prices you see on a website.

You are perfectly welcome to visit Lindenhurst, NY, zip code 11757 and see the prices for yourself and compare them to your favorite website.

When you do, and you and I both look at the same sign and I do not report what is actually on the sign, you can call me a liar.

Until then, either stop calling people liars, or LEAVE THIS THREAD.
I think the whole prespective is tainted. Doesn't really matter if the prices where todays prices or last months. Fact is at 1 point in yall's area fuel was .50 over 87. And? Itsnot like that everywhere. .50 is sbout where I break even. For yall it might be a different story and I agree w/ yall.
What I don't is all the info that has been disputed by website info that topic burns so hot. Just about everyone has been called a time or 2 with info googled. So why now?
The fact of the matter is at .50 spread
Your's and mine fuel cost to mile is starting to equal out.
So what dude found a website that claims different prices. He compares psds to mercades. I can go to 3 websites that has 3 different power ratings for our trucks. I understand that so I don't jump on a band wagon. Info needs some check to it.

For me, the decision was REALLY simple.

I wanted a truck to pull like a 40 mule team. Mileage and gas price didn't enter into hardly at all.

The reason I bought my V-10 is because it's a gas engine and I can work on it. If it shuts down out in the desert, I can flip up the hood and dive in.

For pure pulling power a diesel is the way to go (or so I've been told), but if I break down I would flip up the hood and stare. "Yep, engine's still there". I have no clue how to work on a diesel. I know how they work, but not how to work on them.

So, because I am in the desert as much as I am, and we DO break down out there, I wanted a truck that I could fix well enough to get home without having to call a tow truck.

AND, my V-10 has never balked at anything I've pulled with it (so far). It pulls my TH with ease, and when I tow my wave runners I don't even know they're back there.

Very well said. Another case that just goes to show how worthy a gas powered SD is. There's no doubt its a work horse.
I bet its fun out there in the desert. The toys wouldn't get much play time. I enjoy driving my truck. Lol

What do you have against tow trucks? LOL. Truth be told, I do tow way more diesels, even though in my area, they seem to be about a 50/50 split gas to diesels. Most issues on a gas engine will set the check engine light, and stay running while most diesel issues shut the truck down.

I have nothing against tow trucks, just the cost of what having to use one normally brings. Every time I've needed a tow truck, it's cost me a fair amount!

I got the "Premium" upgrade for the "100 mile" tows. Unfortunately, wherever the tow truck drops it off costs me!

AAA needs to work on that!!

Now it is easy to understand what you are saying >>> you are right and those hundreds reporting to GasBuddy are liars.
Have it your way.

AAA is not your friend or mine. Get towing coverage on your insurance for $12-$20 a year, most allow 3 per year, you get to call the company you choose, no more waiting 3 hours for a tow like AAA. They reimburse you for the charges, and we (the tower) actually get paid more $ than the gas it cost us. AAA typically pays $28 for a tow, so most towers will find a way to bill you for "Extras" not covered by AAA so they can earn a few $ per call. The contracted towers also usually put motor clubs at the lowest priority which means you wait! Ever see the dispatch screen on the show Wrecked? The calls in red are Police or high priority, calls in yellow are customer or cash calls, and calls in white are motor club calls (the lowest priority) Pay less, & get more with your insurance!
