Hmm, my 6.0 PSD turbo does just fine thanks! I get great gas mileage and when I pull my 28ft dutchmen it doesn't even care that it's back there!! I'm not the type to point fingers without direct knowledge, and having never owned a v10 I cannot compare the two vehicles in a fair manner. I will say however, (and don't judge me, we all make mistakes) this truck kicks the everliving **** outta the 3/4 ton chevy I had before!! I absolutely love this truck. It makes me smile when I punch the throttle!
Had the same experience last Friday, but the shop wanted $4500 for differential repairs, so I rented F550 and hauled my truck home.
The pinion gears and bearings on ebay are for $300.
If you ask what that has to do with V10 vs PS? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
Out of randomness, how's your mpg on your PSD F450?
While reading through this thread, I came across post #44... OMFG... That is the funniest forum beatdown I've seen in a long time......
Honestly though, I average 9mpg unloaded and 5-6mpg towing a 10k TT. I can say that the V10s fuel tank is a bit small as I end up refueling at about 190-210 miles when towing. As for reliability, the modular engine family is a proven platform only having just a handful of quirks. In the end, it's somewhat still alive. In 6.2L and 5.0L form but still alive. Not too far off of the original 4.6L romeo engine.
On the opposite side of the spectrum, every time ford comes out with a good diesel, they kill it. The 7.3L that should have just been improved upon is dead. When the 6.0 finally got reliable they killed it. Now, the 6.4L is on the chopping block. Whats next? The 6.7? I think it will be "short-lived" due to fords inexperience with diesel engines. They should work out some type of deal with VW (as they have in the past for most all euro-spec ford diesel car engines) to get the 5.0L V10 "Pump Duse" turbo diesel engine that VW uses in the Touareg and Phaeton. Its currently putting out 345HP (R50 model) and 627FT.LBS while getting excellent fuel mileage.
You get 8 MPGs at 25,000 GCW or towing 25,000?
I get 7.5 at 25,000 GCW, but thats the most I have ever done.
Frankly I can't tell. Customers claim "the tractor weights 4000 lb". My truck rated for 10,000 is sagging heavily under it.
You probably recall the picture of my rig I posted few times. Per my estimate it was truck at 10k, trailer at 5 k and payload over 20k. Than again, can't verify the last one for sure.
Any one blow the heads off of a 6.0?
I hear the 6.7 is Ford built along the lines of the 7.3 to regain confidence after the 6.0 Fiasco.
I know, I have one.
BTW I just spoke with DOT officer. Any pickup over GVW above 10,000 lb as well as stuff like 1-ton pickup converted to flatbed is legally considered a truck, regardless having pickup cabin.
