Yeah, I just keep up with this thread on the hope that someone in Texas with a 1999 PSD takes Bill out for a spin so he will not only change his signature, but delete it! hehehe
I'm really hoping somebody will step up too. It does not have to be a 99, ANY stock 7.3 I will run laps around.
If I get beat, I will change my sig and even put that a PSD beat me in it. But I will win, and when I do I will start keeping track of how many I have beat in my sig. So who wants to be first?

No, I am saying that with it being the base engine there are 3X as many out there as V10s. Mostly fleet trucks. White XL reg cab F250s.
Thats not what Josh said either.
No, I am saying that with it being the very base engine there are 3X as many out there as V10s. Mostly fleet XL F250s.
I know Bill, the second part was sarcasm, the first part is true though. We need you to line up with someone out there, maybe you should drive out to Colorado to meet a real climb.
I think Ford sells more diesel Super Duty's because your average guy has no idea what he really needs in a truck. The majority of Diesels I see around here almost never do any real work. Actually the majority of Super Duties in general around here almost never do any real work, V8, V10 or Diesel. Occasionally haul some lumber, or have a quad in the back - something an F-150 is more then capable of.
EDIT: Gotta love it when the Diesel guys have to resort to insults and name calling to justify their purchase
Ok this thread is locked so everyone can cool down and sober up. Also until the forum mods can take care of some issues.
Guys you need to calm down a LOT. It's just a personal choice which you drive and what the other guys drive it is NOT a personal affront because someone else drives the other type of engine.
Thread has been reopened. PLEASE - I leave this here so that there is an outlet for this debate, but it has to be CIVIL.
Insults and personal attacks are still against the guidelines, and will be dealt with impartially and quickly.
I am beginning to doubt whether or not this thread is really a good idea, because it has started spilling over into other threads, although that seems to be only two or three people and they know who they are. PLEASE - do not take this debate into other threads, if you have anything to say on the subject, say it here.
I see a lot of "work" trucks, fleet trucks, with the 5.4L and 6.8L. Most of the diesels I see are owned by individuals without a need for a true work truck. I guess you could look at the percentage of trucks bought as a fleet truck, for work, and see if they mirror the percentages sold in other "markets". That might be interesting to me, but it would still be a matter of person preference for most people.
Ace the one thing to think about with fleet trucks is they put out a bid and take the lowest offer. The lowest offer is almost always going to be the gasser. Also a LOT of those are lease vehicles that will be turned in at the end of a specified period like 2yrs etc so the longevity is not an issue either (longevity can affect Diesels as well since starting and stopping them constantly I feel is harder on them then a gas engine)
Locally the power company went to all diesels, but the phone company is all gas on their medium duty stuff (obviously the small trucks like the rangers they have are gas)
Another one is the fire dept has 2 F250s both of which are V10s, but the hospital switched up and when they traded in their ambulances they tried one with a PSD and after a couple years decided it was worth having and traded the other Gas ambulance for a diesel too.
I don't think your going to see anymore correlation with fleet stuff then you do the private stuff. Each has a place and each entity or individual will have different ideas of what works.
me I have a 7.3, bought it for the pullnig ability was farming at the time. I keep it because I make my own biodiesel so it's cheaper (costing me 93 cents a gallon for fuel in the summer) ok that and it's been paid for for 6yrs LOL.
The utilities around here, gas and electricity, the Long Island Rail Road, and a slew of other HUGE companies around here run F450/550 V10's for the most part.
These places don't just look at initial cost, they figure in cost of maintenance too. They are currently running trucks from the 1999-up timeframe (based on the headlights), so they aren't leases, they are owned, with full paintjobs and lettering (so they aren't rented either).
It will be interesting to see how many V10's pop up in the F650/750 line of trucks they run, now that they are in the 2012 lineup.
This whole thing could end if the v10 boys will just admit you can't outpull a PSD. LOL PSD guys have conceded reliability, upfront costs and maintenance costs, but you v10 boys won't conceded anything. And some of you even think you get better fuel mileage than a PSD.
Each has its application, but there is no real world scenario that will have a v10 peforming better than a PSD pulling a load. If the majority of your miles are towing, or plowing down the highway unloaded for lots of miles, the PSD is better, cannot argue that.
