Well Bill I would rep you again for being able to be positive and not get drug down into this guys negative attitude but it won't let me.

This must be like your 10th revival from being done with this thread. Wait don't tell me, it's your 4-year old posting now.
Good post. I can understand offering a young person some real world advice but to do it in such a negative condescending way is not needed.
I would rep you Seven-Point-Three but got to spread the love first.
Seriously.. being an electrician isn't a bad job at all. I work for Austin Energy and we find quite a few peoples homes need electrical work before we can reconnect their services after being cut off for whatever the reason may have been. I didn't go to college or any trade schools or anything, but i will be able to retire when i'm 42 yrs old if i stay with the city. Bill, you may not like 7.3's, but if you truely want to be an electrician then run with it. I always have people telling me that i shoulda done this or that, but those things are never what i want to do. I started off getting paid quite well too from day one @ $17.00 an hour.

I got seven point three for you, but it won't let me get sand man or Mike until I spread it around.
Bill, just do whatever makes you happy. It's not all about the money. Electricians make pretty good money around here though. I know several contractors and the electricians they use stay busy all year and charge about $50-65 an hour to wire a house and install the fixtures.
Wow, this thread is almost five times larger than the new member thread!
and hasn't really gone anywhere worth talking about IMO. problem with these threads is that everyone will always have their favorites. Like i love my 7.3 PSD so why am i going to agree when someone says something i don't like about them? It's just something to do on a boring day for me. Nice truck in your sig, btw.
Thanks to all who tried to rep me, I've been trying as well, but the po-po has me locked out. Wish someone else would post something rep-worthy so I could catch up!

Its not that I dislike them, I just don't think they are as good of an engine for most uses.
Where I live right now (Morgantown WV) most wages are pretty low compared to the national average. Yet the electricians on site start around $18-20 an hour. Of course they have to be certified by whoever certifies electricians to work for the government, but it's still pretty good pay IMO.
lol....you'll make a whopping $14.00 an hour as a journeyman and spend 10 years in it before you become a master electrician...The unions are hell and you won't make it in a trade without joining one. Apparently you know as much about life as you do about trucks.
Good luck.
P.S. You'll be an apprentice for a year or two before becoming a Journeyman.
That's one reason I don't live in CO. Wages for trades in CO are repressed.
We're just shy of $30/hr here, truck to drive everyday with no fuel or maintenance costs, and no stinkin' state income tax.
Bill,if you want info about requirements for being an Electrician in Texas, shoot me a note.

A lineman starts at $35 at a local electric utility. You can make decent money in residential and industrial as well. You just have to decide what end you would like go into.
Really though, most people who enjoy their job are pretty good at it. If you good at what you do, you'll make a decent living.
Money helps, but there's more to life than having lots of it. I made a lot of money at my last job, but I worked between 70-100 hours a week, was on the road 5-6 days a week for 2 years straight, missed holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The money just wasn't worth what I was missing at home. I make less money now, but sleeping in my own bed at night, working 40-50 hours a week and spending time with my family more than makes up for the pay cut
