Money helps, but there's more to life than having lots of it. I made a lot of money at my last job, but I worked between 70-100 hours a week, was on the road 5-6 days a week for 2 years straight, missed holidays, birthdays, anniversaries, etc. The money just wasn't worth what I was missing at home. I make less money now, but sleeping in my own bed at night, working 40-50 hours a week and spending time with my family more than makes up for the pay cut
Exactly. I've had a couple of job opportunities that would pay me almost double what I make now, but they would require me being gone and living in a travel trailer or motel room 500-1000 miles from home. I'll stay at home and make $65K/yr working 40 hrs/wk and not be away from my family.

I agree completely. I'm just saying when you are looking for a career choice, it is a factor to look, certainly not the only one though.

I'm in the same boat. I keep thinking of changing jobs eventually, but right now I work for the federal government, which means I get 3 weeks vacation, all 10 federal holidays off, and only work 40 hours a week. However, I only $75k here, in private industry I could make well over $100k. But private industry would require more like 60 hours week, only some of the holidays I get now, and probably less vacation time. With my 11 month old, the extra $25k is not worth it to me.
If I were single however, I would go for the gold while I can

It is something to take into consideration. But even if Bill had said his goal in life was to flip burgers after he graduated high school, that is no reason for anyone to put down his career choice or tell him he will never make anything of himself if he chooses that career. I used to work for a guy that his dream job was flipping burgers and that is all he has done since he was a kid. He started his own hamburger shop and grew it into 30 restaurants and is now a multimillionaire. With the right attitude, knowledge and determination you can be successful in any career.

I agree, you never know what someone with some with some ingenuity can do.
