I love my PSD, but I do have a healthy respect for the V-10. At work they had a 3/4 ton van with the v10 that was abused hauling railroad crews around and I'm sure only had minimum maintenance. It had over 400,000 miles on it and was still running strong! Pretty amazing for a gas engine.

And from such a "reputable" forum no less. I've graced that forum once or twice, just long enough to laugh at the amount of "hillbilly logic" involved the discussion. I think the average age of the subscribed community is 12 by the quality of content contained there.....

Jeez, I've never ventured over there and I can see why. One thing that always apealed to me about this forum is the respect most everyone has for each other's rides. Maybe it is or isn't someone else's choice, but I've never seen anything like the stuff on those 6 pages. Must be a long winter where they live...

Reminds me of another forum........The Ranger Station......All the maturity of middle schoolers and less intellect, Thank God for FTE!
i have a 97 f350 cc 4x4 7.3, my third, 1st was a 94 idi, second 97 350 7.3, the one i have now i sold my v10 exc. to get it which had 110k on and still ran great i would average 11 to13 mpg in town and 16 to 17 highway. it will cost me ALOT of money for me to get the seat of the pants throttle response out of the 7.3 that i had in that v10 exc. now i know some v10 had some issues but so do the diesels, cost wise gas is cheaper to fix, if i had it to do over i would have kept the excursion. bottom line u take care of your engine it will last along time.. i had a 78 bronco i drove for 20 yrs. had 235k on it when i rolled it, the bronco i run now has 145k.
Welcome to FTE. You can get the same seat of the pants from the 7.3 too. You just need to Tweek it a little. And if you want more, then chip it. It will come alive and run circles around the Excursion. I guarantee it. And still get 18+ MPG.
Josh, I just moved here from Northern California. I must say, so far I like it a lot more here. Just feels like home to me.
EDIT: The next time you are visiting family, let me know. We can hook up for lunch or something.
I had remembered seeing where you were from, but I didn't think it was South Carolina. We usually don't get down that way but every couple of years, but I will definitely look you up next time we are down there.
thats the thing tweek it, i already did a electric fuel conv. from dieselsite, open air intake, superchip programmer, 4in exhaust not on yet too cold now. still needs more. nothing was cheap, with a chip i understand u can only expect about 60hp with stock injectors. plus i am alittle concerned about physically getting into pcm, seems everyone who has problems has a chip installed. i guess i have the bug, the wife is on my case, just bought my 7th 79 bronco and now adding goodies to the truck, i have to get home before she does to get the new ups box off the porch.
That is the story of our lives. You have officially gotten PMS. (Powerstroke Mod Syndrome). And we are always hiding something from the wife.LOL
You have gotten the first mods out of the way and that is good. You need guages, especially and EGT gauge to watch those temps. Don't want to push 1200* for long periods of time.
There are also some less expensive mods. The 140v Mod is a resister in the IDM that bumps your voltage to the injectors from 100-120v to 140v.
