Dude, you missed it. I said 24 BELOW zero. were talking more than 40 degrees difference here.
Back in 1976-77 and 1977-78 it got really cold here in ky. -25 was the coldest in recorded history for our area. Nothing moves very fast in those temps. It warmed up to 15 degrees and we were unloading a semi load of hay in long sleve shirts and just a sweatshirt. It felt like it was 50.
I have never used an anti gel in my diesel......and It was down in the lower sixties here this morning....BRRRRRR! had to use the heat for the first time this winter.
Had the a/c on for the ride home.

Yeah, I missed that. I was writing a reply to another message while I was reading yours. The coldest it has gotten here that I can remember was about 10 below zero. I had to cycle my glow plugs twice before starting it, but still started fine with no anti gel.

I use the diesel kleen, but that doesn't have an anti gel additive in it. The white and red bottles are the ones for that. I use the gray bottle.
It's rare that it gets that cold here, but it does happen a couple of times a year. The record cold for where I live is -18. Not quite -24 like the other guy mentioned, but not too far off.
That is just too cold. I am not sure what the record is here, but I was in Montana about this time last year and the temp said 1* on the overhead thermometer. I got out of the truck so I could see what that felt like. I was wearing a short sleeve shirt and I can tell you that I was freezing in about 10 seconds.LOL

You're dang right that's cold lol. It got down to -11 here a few years ago and I had to work outside for about 8 hours. If you closed your eyes for a few seconds to keep the wind out of them your eyelashes would freeze together. My mustache was covered in ice from my breath and snot. My hair got wet and froze and broke. And when you peed on the ground part of it would be frozen before you finished. We had a guy go to throw the water line into the pit and when he let go it wrapped around his arm and pulled him into the pit too(10 feet deep, vertical walls, plastic liner covered in ice, etc). He came up gasping for air, eyes as wide as a plate, arms flailing, and hollering like a little girl lol. As soon as we got him out he had his cover alls and clothes off faster than I've ever seen anyone undress
Jeez, you eastern guys must be tough. I remember once when I was in grade school ( I'm 47 now) and it got to 17 degrees. I thought the world was coming to an end. Today it'll probably be in the high '50's and clear as can be, just like it's been for the past week or so. I love California winters...
Man, that must have been scary for him. I could see the humor in as a bystander too though.
At first, we were all laughing at him. But then we realized he couldn't get out because the pit liner was covered in drilling mud(slickest thing I have ever touched) and ice. Once we got him out and he had to sit there naked by the heater until his clothes dried we laughed at him some more

The guys on the rig would have competitions to see who could go the longest without wearing long sleeves or cover alls. First one to show up in sleeves got ridden like you wouldn't believe. Since I am the "company man" they already look at me as being a sissy, so I had to join in to earn my "man points" too. We would have guys out there in november/december with no shirt on and it 15-20 degrees. We all showed up with cover alls, sweat pants, gloves, etc, on that day lol.
