Did you really read every post?
How long did that take?
Started from the beginning and been reading every day.
um,ok.
How did you come up with that?
Just being a smarta$$. I still don't know what I am going to buy.
I like the cheaper cost of the V10, and maybe it would work better on the short hauls. Plus, I can't leave a motor stock, so it would be fun to stack on the mod's.
But, I like the idea of the diesel, and it's torque. Just don't know much about them and would be at the mercy of a tech to work on it. I've been working on gas engines for 40 years, so it's just a comfort thing I guess. I Don't like the noise of a diesel. My neighbor has a Dodge, and that thing is annoying at 6:00 a.m. But I realize that the newer motors are quieter.
I have one more investigative lead, and I'll be ready I think. I have a friend that works at a business that has several Super Duty's, mostly diesel. He told me last year that after Ford started requiring the cab removal for maintenance, that he started buying gas rigs. Couldn't afford to have a company truck in the shop for a week at a time.
I want to check with him and see how the gas rigs are holding up, and if the company decided to go back to diesel. The pro's and con's from a work truck perspective.
Thanks for all of the input. Keep up the good work. (and the funny stuff)

I haven't worked on a 6.0 or 6.4 before, so I can't speak for their ease of working on. The 7.3 is a very easy engine to work on though. If you can work on a gas engine, you can work on the 7.3 and will find it much easier. If you come to something you aren't sure of, there are plenty of people here willing to talk you through it.

Couldn't agree more. I can't resist modding and the one mechanic i knew i could trust is on the opposite coast, so if I have time... I prefer to do my own work, know that it's perfect (or better, since i use better than stock replacement parts) and appreciate being familiar with everything that may or may not need attention. It was a little intimidating at first (all my experience was with diesel farm tractors and electronic happy imports) but the guys here are phenomenal help regardless of which engine you choose.
That being said - if you like modding, and like doing the work yourself like I am, I couldn't be happier with my 7.3. I'm happier I have it every time I find another excuse to work on it.
Yeah, yeah, someone will chime in about not ever having to work on their truck... but considering that everything I've had to do to my 7.3 was either modding or maintenance one peripherals (steering, interior parts, etc) that you'd have to do regardless of your engine selection... it really wouldn't make much of an argument. So far the only thing ever done to the engine itself was maintenance (oil, coolant, filters, etc and one o-ring). Like has been said before, it's a matter of personal preference. Some guys like the rumble and smell of a v10 gasser. Some guys like the smell and sounds of a turbo diesel.
I might be lying if I said that, when my mods are done, I wasn't looking forward to the angry 747 sound of WOT up a mtn... and the depressed look on the face of the 4cyl drivers...that can't maintain the speed limit up a grade... and who won't make eye contact as i cruise past.

Same thing with me.

Lots of guys around here have older stock 7.3s and cummins dodges and I love the look I get when I blow past then up a hill, towing more than them.
I know what you mean.
I am bored, I think I am going to go take the muffler off my V10 and see what it sounds like.

Bill, stop trying to incite the masses. Or at least do it at some other time than right at 5 o'clock when I am on my way out the door lol.

I know that look very well, I give it gas trucks passing me on a hill all the time....See, us diesels can take our time going up a hill cause we have the torque to get to the top. The gassers however have to get a running start to make it. So, yes we do give you a look passing us on a hill with your rubberbands wound tight!
If you passed me and I shot you the look, I'd be thinking that you must hate your wallet to drive like that. But hey, it's your wallet so you can do with it what you want. I wouldn't have it any other way.

Somehow I don't think that is a performance issue. However, I think you're mistaken. He passed you when you were stopped at the pump.
