I have never been towed and I am willing to bet that will be the case for a long time to come.
Can you say the same about your 6.0?

I can say that about my PSD 7.3.
Did you happen to see the fire caused by the spark plug shooting out in the post above? The 6.0 will not do that.
I am pretty sure he got towed.

Funniest part is he does! If I ever own a diesel it'll either be 7.3 PSD or a 5.9 cummins in place of there a 6.0 or 6.4 should be.

I read that but at 166,500 miles with out spiting one out I do not think I am going to.
Even if it did, I would not call a tow truck.
I would just limp it home on 9.
The thing that will leave it on the side of the road is going to be The 4R100, not the V10 under the hood.

Bill, you do have a lot of miles on yours. Maybe you got a good one. I hope so.

Will it pass the tail pipe test?
If so, for how long before the laws get tougher?

I am pretty sure I did.
I have never been around a 4.6,5.4 or V10 that was not great.
I think the plug blowing thing is much less of a problem then it is made out to be.

Does Texas have a tailpipe test for diesel?

Not yet, but with any mod you have to either be able to go back to stock( like pulling the cat, egr, non EPA approved tuner ,etc.) or Know that it will pass the way it is for many years.
What if you put a 7.3 in a 08 SD and then in 3 years they have a new round of requirements to pass?
Not saying it is not possible, just something to think about before you pull the 6.4.
For the amount of $$$ to make the swap work you could mod a 6.4 and pull every part that makes it worse than a 7.3,IMHO.

Or just buy the truck with the 7.3 already in it.

That is what I would do, but some people do not want to deal with the little crap that breaks on an old truck.

95 and Bill, you guys have some great trucks but I have 115,000 on my 6.4, 99% of them are towing trailers, and the thing is a real pleasure to spend hours behind the wheel. Tows like nothing I have ever driven. When I say that I mean stopping, sway, stability, and of course getting to and maintaining speed. MPG really bites but the thousands of hours of safe and comfortable towing make up for it for me.
A V10 or a 7.3 would be great too but in my line of work, keeping a truck beyond 250,000 miles does not make sense. Not for the motor but for the rest of the stuff that begins to break down (tranny all the way down to holes in the seats).

No problems with it? I like the newer trucks, the reported problems scare me away from it though.
