From the research I've done so far the way the crews were built they are like onions they are made in layers. The roof one layer the drip rail onemail layer the cab body the third and final layer. Cut and peal the bad layers out. The hard part is putting the roof back on. Most of the time you have to take two single cab roofs and weld then together.

Could someone please measure their wheelbase and get back to me on this. I would really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!
I just measured my 79 short bed crew and from the center of the front hub to the center of the rear hub was very close to 150". I did it with a tape measure so its not exactly science but I lined it up as best I could and it came out to exactly 150".

Thanks buddy,,,, I was super excited to finally hear this thing run.. It was a fresh build that sat for two years while I built around it. So I was ready for sure.

I would like to learn more about crewcabs, so has anyone sat and read through all 3000+ responses here?

Is it time to end this thread and re-integrate the "bigger brother" of the f-series world back into this most welcoming 70s truck family forum community?

Yes, I've read through every single one of the responses in this thread. It's fantastic but of course I don't remember every little tip and bit of advice so the search function is a great resource.

I'm currently crewcab-less. I have two 73-79 F-250's regular cabs right now but still enjoy popping in on this thread.

Hello. Not new to Ford Trucks but new to this thread. After thinking about doing a 2wd to 4wd conversion on a regular cab. I have run across 3 crew cabs and one short box and a slew of parts. After 1 week and 10 grand , I have decided on the following project: 1975 F250 Crew Cab Highboy.

I have a 1973 2wd A/C Cab that is designated as a "crew cab special" It has the roof rot and floor rot and rocker rot and so on but great doors. glass and trim. I plan on using it mainly for the dash since its an A/C cab and some trim

I also just bought a 1975 crew cab 4x4 dana 60 closed knuckle front dana 60 rear NP435 4 speed with rot in places but a decent drive line

Then I ran across a 1977 crew from Arizona only rot is in cab corners and the bottom of the pillar between the doors. But it is just through the top skin so easily fixable.

My plan is to take the auto trans from the 1973 crew 2wd and mate it to the 360 in the 1975 4x4. Throw away the cab from the 1975 and put the dash from the 1973 in the 1977 crew from Arizona.

My question after that long winded explanation is:

Does anyone see any issues with taking a 4x4 manual cab off of a 4x4 frame changing out the transmission to an automatic from a 2wd and putting a mostly rust free automatic crew cab on top of it? plus putting a A/C dash in that same mostly rust free cab from the 1973 2wd Crew?

The 2wd crew has a 390 but the 4x4 has a 360 and I plan on just keeping the 360, if that helps anything.

I know I will eventually need to find an A/C compressor and all that stuff but the initial build would at least get me the vents and wiring for it.

Wiring is going to be the main issue. Plugs and the sort. But should work.

It has a cheap plug and play air ride on it now on drop beams. Plan on a crown vic front and redoin all air suspension to lay it all the way out on some 24" centerline smoothies. After that ill do paint and body back original but will probably do a grill swap to round headlights just because of personal preferance. Other than that itll stay all original and will be my daily driver.

That's what I'm talking about!!!!!!!!!!!! Put it in the weeds, baby!!!!
