I just got a Superchips Flashpaq for my '06 6.0 and was wondering if I can install it in the second setting (economy mode) and use it for a while before I get my 4" turbo back exhaust? I will not be towing or getting on it hard. Would this be ok, or should I wait until I get the bucks for the exhaust?
The files are made for stock vehicles so you will be fine.
I've been running the Superchip (economy mode) for a little over 200 miles. I recently unplugged the EGR and as expected got the check engine light. I wanted to see if I could clear the codes, two EGR related, and a third P1000 ( monitor checks not complete more driving required) I'm just curious as to how many more miles for the ECM to adapt and will it then let me try to clear codes? By the way I think this tuning is great. Thanks for any information you can give me.
You can clear the codes but they always comback the second time you start it. I'm going to try a dummy egr soon and see what happens. If you really want to have some fun Download the extreme file and try it you will sh#t.

As long as the EGR valve is disconnected, you will not be able to clear the codes. If it is connected again, you can can the two egr codes but the P1000 will take some driving cycles to clear.
Mike,
Thanks for the reply. I was just curious if it would clear the codes or not. I really liked the way my PSD drove before, but with the addition of the Superchip program and 4" turbo back exhaust, I'm really impressed!

I think I might go with a dummy EGR or just put up with the light. When I had my VW TDI I completely removed the EGR valve after seeing the mess it was after only 20K miles. If disconnecting the EGR on the PSD works I'm all for it.
I get what seems like a driveline "howl" around that speed as well, but haven't thought to check and see if it happens in stock mode (I have an appointment with the dealer on Tuesday, and have detuned the truck already), but maybe I'll check in the next day or two. The "howl" disappears when I ease off the throttle, but I don't think it's a boost related sound ... I get the impression it's originating from the tranny or drive shaft.
I'm also purchasing a hood liner, so I'll see if that helps minimize the "howl" in the cabin.
I'll let you know what I discover.
Regards,
Steve
This was a post I made many pages ago, and I just wanted to update it ... It turns out that the "howl" was NOT driveline related, but originating at the turbo. My dealer told me that they had installed a special brace (as directed by Ford Engineering HQ) which better stabilizes the turbo and greatly reduces or eliminates the "howl." It HAS helped a LOT in quieting the truck down at highway speeds.
I also posted a question around the same time that never got answered, so hopefully Superchips Mike will have the answer. Ford reprogrammed their tranny tune a year or so ago to provide a measure of engine braking as a response to complaints that brakes were wearing too fast. Obviously, fuel economy takes a hit as a result. My question was and is: "Does the Superchips tranny tune reverse this so that MPG is again better?
I would much rather get better MPG and deal with more frequent brake service than the reverse. I've had no issues so far with premature brake wear (even before the Ford change in tranny strategy) so restoring MPG is definitely more important to me.
I look forward to the answer, thanks!!
PS I don't think the hood liner did much to change the noise level coming from under the hood, but I'm certain it will be helpful in preserving the paint over time ... so I'm glad I bought it!

What trans calibrations (before and after) are you referring to?

Just found out the other day on the superchips website. The Extreme/ Redline file turns off the EGR.
Did you guys see this picture? Look at the top of the cylinder, they are saying the polish is from the additional heat generated by the additional fuel the performance chips add. http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/photographs/index6.php

What does this have to do with this thread? are you trying to start another
don't tune your 6.0 war.
Those pics do not conclude anything fact based about the 1805 causing
those type of failers .
Superchips is one of the safest tunes I have put over 100,000 miles on a tuned 6.0 and run the hell out of it without a problem and it is a great product

Those "daisy" patterns on the tops of the pistons are NOT necessarily from over fueling. They are from extreme ignition timing. I had those when I ran the old Predator programs because the timing was something like 22 degrees. The GOOD SCT programs don't go over 11 and you should NEVER see those in the pistons unless you're doing some extreme performance and some INSANE tuning. It just isn't necessary to run that much timing to get great performance. I thnk SuperchipsMike will back up what I say as well as most of the other responsible tuners out there.
Will running the redline tune fuul time damage anything? I always run mines on performance tune but I don't get on it at every single stop. In fact I go weeks without getting on it and my rig seems to run just fine. Question 2 is, I'm thinking of running the pro comp xterrain 38.5x14.5x18 tires. will I be able to adjust the tire size even though it's a half an inch bigger than max tire setting on the flashpaq. The tire actually stands at 37.7 Thanks in advance.
I run a 440+rwhp tune in my truck every day with no ill results (other than fuel mileage). It's a matter of self control with the right foot. It gets run hard, but it gets run hard right.
